This review is from: Playmobil Pirate Corsair (Toy)
This is Playmobil's beginner pirate ship and it's a great way to start out with Playmobil.
1) All Playmobil products are of the highest quality. Everything is well made, thought out and designed by this great company which has been popular in Europe for decades but only relatively recently in the US. Playmobil is the Mercedes of toy brands. 2) This is Playmobil's starter pirate ship with the least amount of accessories, and it's also the least expensive. Playmobil has been releasing the Corsair in different color schemes, trims and accessories. If you like this color and scheme, you shouldn't wait because once it's gone Playmobil won't make this exact same scheme and trim again. 3) This ship is not for any child under 7 or so, because this isn't a throw away toy. It's very well designed and "realistic" pirate ship with rigging and sails. If your child is younger, you might want to keep the small acessories in their bags first and not rig the sails or rigging. You can play just as well without them. This ship floats and you can buy a add on motor to make it go. 4) The great secret about this ship and Playmobil in general is that there are tons of add ons. You can buy additional pirates to beef up your crew or government forces to fight against them, plus forts and additional cannons, etc. This ship will grow with your child. If you have any questions about Playmobil there are several on-line guides, catalogs and forums where you can hang out with like minded people. 6) In conclusion, this is a great starter ship at a great price and a great introduction to Playmobil. Once you get hooked on Playmobil, you'll won't be able to help buying more Playmobil stuff. I don't know if that'll be a good thing or not.

Both of my boys are pirate lovers (age 7 and 10) and they both love all the Playmobil. Playmobil are great toys to improve imagination because they are in no way related any media like cartoons or film. It allows them to pretend whatever they wish. It is also great in the tub. We have Playmobil that has lasted 6 years plus in great shape minus a few parts that have been lost.

I bought this as a gift for my nephew since he loves pirates and this corsair is exactly what the doctor ordered. The ship is very detailed but not overwhelmingly so. It does take some time to assemble. So, if this is going to be a gift, I would recommend putting it together in advance as it took me about 1.5 hours to assemble. If you have smaller kids, you may want to keep some of the smaller parts such as the dozens of little coins that come to put in the pirate coffer. The ship not only floats but also has little wheels so they can roll it on the ground or, more likely, your antique, wooden table.
Just a little side story: I have had Playmobils since I was about 5, back in 1984 or so. The fact that the exact, same toys my brother and I used to play with back in the 80's are being used by my little nephew is a testament to the quality and workmanship of the Playmobil line. After around 25 years, my old astronauts and knights are still in tip top shape and entertaining a new generation of little imagineers.

My four year old son loves it. Very authentic. Takes time to set up so recommend putting it together and then giving as gift.

We have had this ship for about a year now, and my son is still playing with it (now it attacks the castle we just bought). We also have the smaller one with the red sail, for battles at sea. Yes, the rigging is a pain to do, but sort of fun in a wonky way. Yes, the sails come off, but in a year of play, they're still intact, and we just put 'em back on when he wants them. The cannons still fire, and when one from the other ship broke, Playmobil replaced it for free. The pirates have great details, and the accessories are a blast. Well worth the money, durable and fun!

We recently bought the Playmobil Pirate Corsair for our grandson's birthday. We had noticed that he played a great deal with Playmobil figures that had been his dad's, so we wanted to buy some for him to take home. Be aware that the Playmobil toys have many, many tiny parts, which aren't suitable for very small children. Also be aware that they take assembly, which can be time consuming. Do not wait until you have given the toy to the child to begin assembling the toy unless you want a frustrated adult and unhappy child. Some of the pieces can be lost or broken by young children. All said, he loves his pirate ship and plays with it for hours.

This pirate shipt is the best out there. With wheels on the bottom it glides beautifully on carpeting as on wood floor and is also usable in the bathtub! A great find.

I was actually looking to buy the playmobil pirate boat but it was sold out every where (because of christmas). I was afraid to purchase this pirate corsair because i thought it was going to be small. in Contrary to my belief, this boat was exactly what i had wanted in the first place. it is very durable and is very fun to put together. would highly recommend!

My son received this as part of a set for Christmas this year. He will be 5 in Feb. He played gently with it but it still began falling apart. He liked it but was quickly annoyed by the falling sails. He doesn't even bother with it now.
Of course, his set came with other parts, but it took us over an hour to assemble just the boat. The only part of the boat that was already assembled was the shell of it. We had to put on everything else. I'm sure there are other products out there that are easier to assemble and easier to play with. This shouldn't be played with. It needs to sit on a shelf to collect dust. |
