3.0 out of 5 stars Nifty design, a few minor FYIs
My 34 month old son loves this plane, he swooshes around the living room carrying the passengers from air-port, to air-port.

The only down-side is that the top tail piece, and sometimes the wheels, will become detached if he holds the plane using those parts. He has mostly compensated and learned to hold the plane with the more solid parts (the wings...

It took maybe 10 minutes to put this item together on Christmas Eve. There were more parts than I had expected and the plane was also larger than I had expected but this turned out to be perfect for little hands to fit down inside of. The wheels roll and turn Very smoothly. The plastic is heavy duty and will not be breaking in our lifetime. While the wheels occasionally come off during a 'crash' and sometimes the tail has fallen off, I believe this is what keeps the toy from really breaking. It's a good design and the kids 3&5 can usually put it back together themselves. The top comes off, the side door opens and there is a luggage compartment in the back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic jet for kids who love airplanes!, January 17, 2009

We bought this private jet, the 5811, and the larger model 4310 commercial jet for our twin 4-year-old sons, as well as the airline terminal, tower, and some accessory pieces. They absolutely LOVE the whole set, but they especially love the planes. They are so realistic and spark our boys' imaginations! The private jet is about 2/3 the size of the commercial jet and is a bit easier for the boys to hold for pretend flying; however, they do sometimes fight over the larger one simply because it is larger.

Note that the plane does take a good 30 minutes or more to put together, so I recommend assembling it BEFORE your child sees it. (We wrapped empty boxes for them to open and then surprised them with the assembled toys).

The only flaw, which most other customers have also noted, is that the wheels and the tail wing tend to pop off too easily. It's easy to put back on, but I wish Playmobil had given this more thought. The boys don't care though and I simply pop them back on whenever this happens, which is at least daily. Fortunately, the private jet seems to have less of this problem than the commercial jet, which has more pieces to pop off. All in all, I am very glad to have purchased this and our boys are getting lots of great pretend play out of them. PS...These products are considerably cheaper on Playmobil's website. Hopefully, Amazon starts selling this instead of 3rd party stores, so we customers can get free shipping AND good prices!

My 3 1/2 yr old granddaughter wanted an 'airplane' for Christmas (grandpa's a pilot). After a fair amount of shopping around, this looked like a good bet. I think it is. Toy is made from appears to be pretty durable plastic parts. Top of the fuselage comes off, allowing child to play with pilot and Texas oilman passenger in airplane. One note of caution: plane comes in parts and must be assembled. Graphic assembly instructions are large and clear, but assembly is complex enough that an adult will be required to do the assembly. Presumably one who has some aptitude at using graphic instructions.

We bought this for our 5 year old who wanted a toy airplane for his 5th birthday. This will take you about 10 - 15 minutes to assemble. The first thing that struck me was the quality of the plastic parts. They are not flimsy at all and fit together very well. It is almost like someone put some real thought into designing this toy - then I had to look - where was this made? Certainly not China? Well I should have known - it was made in Germany. This toy is well made, well designed, and goes together beautifully. One BIG design advantage - this toy is meant to be played with - and dropped. When it 'crashes' the parts like the wings, tail, landing gear, etc. simply break away - but not break - then you just snap it all back together and off you go. This was a big hit with our son - who played with it all that first weekend - and I am sure will get lots of good creative play time - I like toys like this that he has to make up his own play story line - so far he has named the plane - and flown it to "Africa" and "England". We were stuck with time and had to even pay for the 2 day shipping - and even with that added on the bill I still am happy with this purchase.

I bought this plane for my 3.5 yr old, and he absolutely loves it. The plastic is high quality and very durable. The wheels do fall off sometimes, but snap back on. The toy comes in pieces, and has to be put together, but is no harder than legos or similar toys. It is rather large, which is maybe hard to tell from the picture.

I was extremely impressed with the Quality of the Aircraft, but have noticed that I am constantly reattaching the tail fin, and landing gear for my son. I am about to put a drop of glue on these parts and see if that helps..

I bought this toy jet as a gift for my six-year-old boy, though my four-year-old boy probably plays with it more. After searching through all the leading toy brands, finding this toy was a treat. I found other manufacturers' pickings to be sparse and the designs either too "cute" (bright orange wings or grossly exaggerated proportions) or too dangerous (made with metal). This toy, however, accurately recreates an actual aircraft design. It appears to me to be a scaled-down version of a Bombardier Challenger 300 business jet or a Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ-200). It even has approximately the same number of seats as in the Challenger's case. The beauty of this is that this toy's proportions are completely realistic, and to me appears could actually fly. I believe this makes it easier for my boys to use their imagination, since they're able to use this toy the way it's intended. They load up the passengers in cabin (the toy has five to seven seats in the cabin if I remember correctly, plus two in the cockpit), and then taxi and takeoff, then they say they're flying to such and such city--just like in passenger airline service. Success! They're using their imagination. I remember when I was a boy that my favorite toys were the ones that looked real--in other words, had appropriate proportions, designs, and colors. This toy succeeds in every respect.

It does require substantial assembly (has more than 50 pieces). It quickly becomes evident that it is constructed very well, and allows for a generous amount of rough handling. My boys have crashed, dropped, and stepped on it numerous times. The worst that has happened is the pieces snap off. So I just help them snap them back on. This toy comes with two figures, and those two figures each have small hats, and one has a briefcase, which are choking hazards. Additionally, the tires come off the wheels fairly easily, and my 15-month-old son loves to chew on them like gum. Also, they are easily lost, so watch out for that. I recommend stowing away the dangerous accessories if you desire, since the figures and airplane can be just as much fun to play with without the small, hazardous pieces.

This is one toy that I don't mind jumping in and playing with alongside my kids. My boys love it when I simulate realistic radio calls to our pretend air traffic control as they taxi, take-off, climb, descend, and land. And because of the cabin and cargo doors that open and close, we can simulate an entire, "pretend" commercial flight from one airport to another--from boarding and loading up the bags before departure to deplaning and baggage claim after arrival. And if you don't want to buy the airport that goes with this toy, you can just build an airport and runways with legos like my boys and I do.
