5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Dinosaur Playset!
We bought the Spinosaurus playset for our dino-obsessed almost 3-year old. Although the age recommendation is 4+, the main pieces - like the mama and baby dinosaurs - are quite large. The mama dinosaur is, I would estimate, about 16" long and maybe 10" high (this is just a guess) but she is really large and superb, about the size of an average stuffed animal; her arms and...

This review is from: Playmobil Adventure - Spinosaurus with Dino Nest (Toy)
We bought the Spinosaurus playset for our dino-obsessed almost 3-year old. Although the age recommendation is 4+, the main pieces - like the mama and baby dinosaurs - are quite large. The mama dinosaur is, I would estimate, about 16" long and maybe 10" high (this is just a guess) but she is really large and superb, about the size of an average stuffed animal; her arms and legs move and her mouth can be opened to expose her dangerous teeth and a movable red tongue. The two babies are about the size of the Playmobil people - maybe around 2.5" high, 3" long including the tail, their mouths do not open, but their arms and legs move.

Both mama and baby dinosaurs can come apart with rough play (their arms and legs), but as another reviewer mentioned, these pieces just snap back on. So mild supervision might be required for some younger children with these pieces, and greater supervision with the other pieces, which include two explorers with lots of tools (including a laptop computer, which was a big hit with my four-year old, because it's like daddy's), a rock formation with three prehistoric-looking plants growing from it (that come apart into many pieces), and finally a green mass of terrain with a 'straw' Spinosaurus nest that can be laid inside it; there are also three Spinosaurus eggs.

You can expect to pay less than 25 for this entire set, and may find it some places for less than 20 (see comments). At either of these prices, it's a fantastic bargain for a toy made of heavy-duty durable ABS plastic in Germany. As anyone familiar with Playmobil probably already knows, the details and realism are fantastic, and the scale of people to dinosaurs is accurate. The Spinosaurus was, I believe, the largest meat-eating dinosaur, and is even larger than the T-Rex, also available in another Playmobil set.

My daughter LOVES this set, which is no real surprise; she's been carrying around the baby dinos from the Playmobil add-on set for about a year, and her old baby Spinosaurus had a run-in with the lawnmower that lopped off his tail and arm. We were going to toss him out, but she refused to part with him and has lovingly bandaged his wounds ever since. The mommy dinosaur goes to bed with her, and even gets a good tooth-brushing beforehand, which is ridiculous and sweet.

Another reviewer mentioned that there is nothing to this set and that it is boring, and I would agree: If your kids are lacking in imagination, or are used to constant overstimulation, this toy won't engage them. It requires child-initiated interaction and a rich ability conjure a fantasy world. But given the right kind of child, this can be a fantastic and enduring toy. I can see it being passed on to future generations.

My son loves this set! Included is a spinosaurus whose arms and legs move (and can be removed). The mouth opens and closes and the tongue moves around -- pretty cool according to my 3 yr old. There are 2 baby dinosaurs (arms/legs move), a rock formation where you can build the plants/flowers and a place for a nest---3 eggs are included. My son has different dinosaur sets of all sizes, and this has been a great addition to his dinosaur collection. There are 2 dino doctors w/ a magnifying glass/binoculars/briefcase etc...he doesn't play w/ those that much but loves the mommy dino.

These are very well made dinosaurs. The sets are great with many pieces for creative play. My 5 year old loves them and spends a lot of time playing with the set. What I like is how duarable these are! The dinosaurs legs and arms will come off with aggressive play (I also have a 3 year old), but they pop right back on. I really like the quality of this and all of the extra pieces that come with it! Great value for what you get.

My Grandson absolutely loves this--he is a dinosaur collector and one of his favorite things. He would have every set of dinosaurs if we could afford it and they would have room for them!!
