5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent toy, incredible detail, not for the very young
My just 7 year old son recently purchased the larger airport (#3615) after saving for a VERY long time. It took about three and a half hours to assemble it with my helping him for about one of those hours and at a few points in between. He finds the assembly as enjoyable as playing with the set and as long as I help him when he gets stuck, it's just a puzzle. For those...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for the RIGHT kid
I agree that if I was a kid again, I would love this toy. For my 5-year-old son, however, who is an aircraft fanatic, we thought this would be ideal. But I think this toy's high concept is perhaps overwrought, frankly, maybe too concrete. A more abstract version would probably be more fun. It also falls apart a lot. But I think this toy's high concept is perhaps overwrought, frankly, maybe too concrete. A more abstract version would probably be more fun. It also falls apart a lot. The seats come off, the railings fall down, the computer won't stay on the desk, the "safety shields" come off, etc. My hubby and I sat down late Christmas eve to "set out the new toys," and needless to say, had a late night of it assembling this (we had NO IDEA what was ahead of us,) but that part was fun (though I agree about the silly little flowers!) I do think over time, this will be a lot more fun. We have put it away for use later. Great for a child who loves intricate little details - not for a big mover.

For those who complained about how long it took, it's not THAT hard, and consider what it would cost if it came fully assembled! I'm just completely amazed and in appreciation of the kind of detail thats put into Playmobil toys. They are very realistic and up-to-date, right down to the electronic check in, the flower pots, and the security guard with the wand.

I would definitely not recommend this (or Playmobil in general) for most children under 5. It usually takes a child at least that old to appreciate and take care of the wonderful detail of the whole setup. I wouldn't let an 18 month or 3 year old (as mentioned in other reviews) near something like this anymore than I'd give a child that age my digital camera to play with. However, my 7 year old can handle both quite responsibly.

I have been playing with Playmobil since before I can remember. I can not remember not having playmobil around the house. Now that I am older I have small displays around the house. I feel that in the past few years Playmobil has come around. They are making sets that I wished I had when I was a child. I now own every piece of airport that they make. I even own the new RC Tour Bus that just came out. I love the air port. I feel that it is one of the best sets sence the Circus. People say that it takes a long time to assemble. I know for fact that it does not. My 5 year old can have it entirley built in 15 min. This is including the Gate Extensions. It is sturdy and well built. It provides hours of play. I even catch my self playing with it when my son is not around. The set is realistic and has plenty of room for imagination. The only regreat I have about this set is that they took the World Trade center out of the city sky line. Towere made this toy much more of a memorial to 9-11 than with out. I reconmend this toy to any way in the age limit, even to those of you who think that playing with toys is childish. It will bring out qualiteys that you did not know you had.

My two boys, ages 2 and 6 have just about every piece that playmobil makes. Let's just say they will probably be the only toys that we save for their future children. My husband and I make sure we assist with initial assembly. That way if we find a small piece, we know where it should go or if it needs reassembled, we know how to do so. My boys spend hours playing with these detailed toys. Their imaginations are unbelievable. Since the sets can come apart, supervise kids that aren't used to playing gentle with toys. I have found that some of their friends are rough because they have no experience with sitting down and playing with toys that don't have lights, whistles and bells doing everything for them.
I cannot say enough good things about playmobil products. We have even taken our sons to the Playmobil "museum" in Florida while on vacation. They generally have the newest items on the market, before they hit stores. We look forward to adding to our collection every year. Although they tend to be costly, buy them, they won't disappoint!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic Toy, February 10, 2003

I purchased this toy for my 3 and 5 year old sons. Yes, the first time I assembled it , it did take a while, but the times after that, I did it without consulting the instructions and fairly quickly. My sons play with this toy for hours, and I like the fact it is very realistic and ,in effect, educational. It is a high quality toy, and extremely detailed. Over the next few years, we plan on purchasing all the Playmobil themes. I love this brand, and I get such joy from seeing my sons play with a toy which entertains, educates, and fuels their little imaginations.

3.0 out of 5 stars putting together the playmobil airterminal, December 17, 2002

Give yourself plenty of time and patients to put this together, depending on the age of the child, you may not want their help. The picture instructions are easy to follow and it is actually easy to put together, but it is very detailed (detailed to the point you have to put the flowers on the stem, the stem in the greenery then put it all in the flowerpot and attach to the floor). The pieces seem to be packaged randomly, so you need to have space to work.

Was it worth all the effort? My children seem to enjoy playing with it, but not as much as I thought they would. They actually enjoy playing with the airplane by itself.

My 31/2 year old son loves this toy. He also got the playmobile plane and ground crew and plays with all three. My biggest complaints are 1) it took about 5 hours to put together and 2) when my son plays with the elevator and doors, etc. they tend to pop off and I am forever putting it back together. Other than that, he loves to incorporate his new cars into the "game" and pretends that people are driving to the airport. Great game for the imagination!

My 4 year old son received this on this birthday. We all LOVE it! The details are amazing. I really love putting stuff together so I wasn't really intimidated by the MANY pieces. I just took my time. The instructions were really easy.

We've had it for several months and we still have all of the pieces and nothing is broken. Playmobil products are really built to last although, my son is very good with his toys. He gets pretty upset if one gets broken.

I HIGHLY recommend all playmobil products. I searched the web for other products and there is definitely something for every child's interest - boy or girl!

We have the larger version of this airport, and my 2 boys find it to be a nice addition to the playmobil airplanes. I think that this version looks to be just as good, but I decided on the larger version for the simple reason that I have more than one child playing with it at the same time. I must admit that it was very time consuming to put together (2 planes and the large airport together took me about 5 hours to put together!!!) My boys (ages 4 and 5) have been playing with it for the last 7 1/2 hours non-stop. I feel that this amount of play is a true test of the toys value. Even with the many hours that it took me to put together, I am certainly happy with my purchase.
