4.0 out of 5 stars Great hardware... February 22, 2013

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I really enjoy playing tablet video games with the Nyko controller. The Nyko controller is VERY nice including the texture of the plastic controller, the shape of the controller in your hands, the layout (much like xbox 360) and the sturdy build. This controller feels like it will last for a long time and looks great.

Out of the box I charged the gamepad (via USB charger) and downloaded a bunch of games. Once charged I used the Nyko launcher and was able to play all the games they had pre-sets for including (Cordy, Samurai II, Sonic CD, Trial Xtreme 2, Meganoid and GTA III). Without using the Nyko launcher I was able to play several games with native gamepad ability including (ShadowGun, Zombie Driver, Gunman Clive, TriaX2 and Edge). Playing ShadowGun (and a couple of others) makes your android tablet feel like a game console, very cool!

The only cons I have with this is the software which can be fixed by updates (crossing my fingers). The first issue is the Nyko launcher only has 6 game presets prebuilt in it. I have tried to add other games but none of the games I have added see inputs from the controller. I know I am adding the games to the launcher correctly but I guess it is only going to work on a few games out there. This is one place Nyko could really help itself and its customers (build more game profiles). The second large con is that the games that work with the launcher require you to pair the Nyko controller through the launcher. The other games that have native support for gamepads (listed above) require you to pair the Nyko controller through the tablet bluetooth settings not the launcher (they do not work vice versa).

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Good on Kindle Fire HD February 4, 2013
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
UPDATED ON 02/04/2013

It took me no time at all to connect the controller to my Kindle Fire HD. The controller comes without a charge so I had to charge it but you can use it while it's being charged. It took me about 3 hours to fully charge the controller and the instructions say that a full charge will last for 30 hours of gameplay. So far it is living up to that length of battery life as I haven't charged it again since the initial charge.

Nyko is working on an app called Playground which I assume will be available on Amazon when it's complete. As I understand it the app is currently in beta testing. Regardless if you set the controller to HID mode (by setting the switch on the back of the controller to the position of the controller icon) you can use this on your Kindle Fire HD. On the main screen you can use the left and right directional buttons or the left joystick to flip through the screens and you can start whatever app is highlighted but that's about all you can do from the main screen.

The main reason I purchased this (and I'm sure most of you will as well) is to play games. I tried it with every game I had on my Kindle some of them work, some of them don't, and some of them kinda do. I'll go through a review of each game I have and how well the controller worked or didn't work. I'll update this as time goes on. Feel free to ask questions cause I always answer them when I get the e-mail that someone has commented on my reviews!

Alphedia: I really expected this game to work since the other Kemco RPG games did. This game doesn't work with the controller AT ALL.

Eve of the Genesis: I can confirm that this game works PERFECTLY. You can navigate every menu and access every feature straight from the controller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well with Amazon Prime June 11, 2014

This remote pairs and works very well with the Amazon Fire TV and its only $17 and it does not require batters vs. $30 that Amazon is charging for their remote which requires batters. Amazon needs to come down on their price.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good controller with room for improvement. April 3, 2014
Verified Purchase
I'm a big fan of retro-gaming and recently got an NVidia Shield. Some users of the Shield complain that the unit is heavy and is uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time (since the unit is also the controller). While this hasn't been much of an issue for me, I bought the Nyko Playpad Pro to use not only as a main controller (instead of the "heavy" Shield), but also as a controller for a second player in 2-player MAME games. After fiddling with it for a while, and trying to configure it for player 2 mode without success, I've since been just using it in place of the Shield controls. It connected easily and quickly and is responsive. I don't notice any lag and, to be honest, I haven't had any problems (aside from not being to configure it as a player 2 controller). The build quality seems okay; I really like the texture of the plastic, and the D-pad, buttons, and joysticks seem solid, tight, and responsive; however, there is some jaggedness to the plastic along the seam where the top piece and bottom piece are connected. As for the design, the layout of the controls is fine for me and the device fits in my hands nicely and is comfortable for long periods of use. It is also very lightweight and I get MANY hours of wireless gameplay from a single charge.

With all of the positives, one of the negatives is that this controller cannot (yet) be set up as a player 2 controller. There is a "2" LED on the unit (apparently for player 2); however, when I called Nyko support, I was told that the controller currently cannot be used as a player 2 controller. Even if 2 controllers are connected to the same device, they will both only function as player 1 controllers.
