My nearly 5 year old got this for Christmas and he enjoyed playing it. The difference between the regular version and the deluxe version is the Sherlock playing piece that you move around the circle. He liked having Sherlock to move around and I think it helps little ones keep track of which card they have to remember/guess, but it is not necessary to have one to play the game. This is a memory game. Basically you put the cards in a circle face up (less cards to make the game easier, and more cards to make the game harder) and take time to memorize their location then turn them over. One player places Sherlock by a card and the other player has to say what is under the card. If they are correct, the card is flipped picture up. On the card is also a number and an arrow which tells you which way to move and how many cards over to move. The same player continues guessing until either they hit a card which is already face up (in which case they win that card and it is replaced with a new one, ending their turn), or they guess wrong and the other player starts their turn. The first player to collect 6 cards wins, but you can shorten the game by having a lower number of cards to win. I liked that it was easy to play, easy to understand, and could easily be adjusted to the skill, age, or attention span of the child who was playing. I also liked that the cards were really thick and sturdy, much thicker than the cards in a deck of cards.

I have to admit that I only bought this game because we own 2 bloodhounds (Mosby & Scarlett) and it includes the cute little Sherlock the bloodhound figure. But it is a really great game. Thoroughtly entertaining. Quick paced and fun to play. Two thumbs up (and 8 paws up). A real winner!!!

Last night after Thanksgiving dinner, my husband got this game out for the first time. Our children are 3 1/2, 6, and 8. It was my mom, my husband, and I in addition to them. I was shocked when we started playing and my 3 1/2 year old remembered a lot! I was so impressed. He didn't get discouraged playing the game--and neither did my older children. It held all of their attentions. One of the greatest things about this game is that it doesn't require reading, so pre-readers can play it alongside readers. I did join my son on a team, but I only gave him hints when he needed them. Most of the time he did just fine on his own.

This game is placed with cards and a Sherlock dog game piece. You place 6-8 cards in a circle. You turn them up and try to memorize where they are. The sherlock piece moves around the circle according to the arrows on the cards. We started with 6 pieces which was great for our children. 8 would have been too much. It is a memory game and was wonderful mental exercise for them! After you have seen the cards, you turn them over. You move around the board from one piece to another until you land on a piece that has already been turned up. Then you get to keep that piece. You keep going until someone has gotten 6 cards.

It is very hard to find games that are fun for all ages with young children and are genuinely mentally challenging. I found this game to be a fun challenge for all of us and I was so pleased that we could all play together!
