5.0 out of 5 stars Moody and sublime, November 26, 1999
This review is from: Plays Coleman Coltrane Davis & Others (Audio CD)
This album has the curious distinction of being one of the best piano trio albums ever recorded and having one of the ugliest covers in all of jazz. Hersch is sublime here -- moody, reflective and subtle in the Bill Evans vein, but also full of vitality, warmth and humor. Hersch's version of Shorter's "Iris" -- one of the most exquisite melodies ever written, one can only imagine if Evans had played it! -- is worth the price of the album alone. Great sequencing, a wonderful range of moods that all contribute to a single powerful experience. Hersch's best record.
