Editorial Reviews

Whilst it is clear that as a guitarist Hank Snow was not in the same league as, say, Chet Atkins, Grady Martin, Hank Garland, Joe Maphis or Jimmy Bryant, he was well-respected for his art. Certainly his record label, RCA, would never have allowed him to play on all his sessions had he been less than thoroughly competent - studio time was money and woe betide record producers if they allowed their artists to waste it. Even more proof-positive of his skills is the fact that over the years RCA issued a number of guitar instrumental albums by Hank Snow, starting in 1957 with "Country Guitar", and that master musician Chet Atkins bestowed the honour of recording a guitar album with him in 1964, "Reminiscing", and again in 1969, "By Special Request".Whether you listen to this collection as a guitarist or as a Hank Snow / Country music fan, you won t be disappointed. As already explored on JASMINE in two earlier CDs ("Blues For My Blue Eyes", JASMCD 3522, and "Down At The Rainbow s End", JASMCD 3531), Hank Snow was one of the key figures who made Country music the formidable force it is today See also: JASMCD3522 - Blues For My Blue Eyes JASMCD3531 - Down At The Rainbow's End

5.0 out of 5 stars Hank Snow Plays Guitar, April 19, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plays Guitar - The Instrumental Side Of Hank [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED] (Audio CD)
The title of the CD is a bit misleading a only the first 12 selections are instrumental, but the balance of the album's selections feature some of Hank's flat picking. Chet Atkins plays back up on most of these, and in fact plays some great solos on several. A few of these were on other albums featuring Hank and Chet, but a couple were apparently only recorded for this album. Hank was an excellent guitarist, and Chet was and is Mr. Guitar. This album is a treat for fans of either guitarist.

Again amazon, it would really help if you can please put the track listings on this CD because it will help. Hank Snow is truly one of country music's greatest legends and his guitar playing is outstanding!

Gets a little boring after a while but that statement should not be construed to malign his playing. I wish I could play half as well and develop an absolutely unique style like he did.
