I have loved this LP since it was pressed on vinyl back in the 60s. It's still one of my favorites. If you like Quincy, you will love this!

A give this 4 stars because I think it is below Quintessence and Big Band Bossa Nova. This CD is only available as a rare Japanese import. The disc is a bit uneven. The best tunes are Brubecks Bossa Nova USA and Desafinado. Watermellon Man trys to split the sound of the Hancock original with Santamaria's version. The result is less than stellar. Not a bad disk, but I expected more. It is more easy listening and less jazz oriented than his previous work.

Quincy Jones Plays Hip Hits,

This recording is the best of the early works of Quincy Jones. It may even be his best overall next to The Dude. Quincy Jones brings the big band sound to great hits such as Desafinado, Exodus, A Taste of Honey, Take Five, and Walk on the Wild Side with a little taste of jazz. The jazz itself is played in a few short bars within each song which doesn't take away from these great melodies, but adds the perfect dose of spice. One of my favorites on the CD is "Back at the Chicken Shack." You can't help but tap you foot and rock your head back and forth on this one. Hip Hits is a must get for people who enjoy Quincy Jones.
