4.0 out of 5 stars Well done!
Steve Allen got together some very fine musicians for this date, and the excellent results show. Ken Peplowski (cl/ts), Glenn Zottola (tp), and Howard Alden (g) all contribute fine work on this CD. The rendition of Allen's "Everyone can see how much I love you" is the highlight here--a beautiful ballad done just right. A most enjoyable CD.

2.0 out of 5 stars This cd showcases the other side of Steve
I bet you didn't know that Steve Allen could be a jazz pianist. Well, the verdict is in and Steve succeded at his dream. Congratulations, Steve!

What a wonderful job Steve did with this cd. He played like he was a natural jazz star. He also attracted a great supporting cast to help him sound brilliant. I can't say enough good things about this cd. I wish there would be...

Swingin' stuff, with just the right element of pathos (Tangerine, Body and Soul for early selection tandem). Outstanding sextet. Just enough of Steverino's ivory tinkling to let us know this is his kind of music. Peplowki's clainet and sax, Zottola's trumpet, Alden's guitar, Berghoefer's bass, Capp's drums get a workout. We remember the music from Steve's teevee days (Impossible, This Could Be the Start ....., Gravy Waltz, etc). This hits the spot just as well. Try it, you'll like. A Sinner Kissed An Angel, You Go To My Head, Can't Get Started. Great mood music, yet -- as we said, swingin' stuff that won't overpower you

Steve and some strong sidemen bring a happy little set to us. At times it's a little "Lounge Music" and rehearsed but with some inventive solos. Wonderful clarinet from great Ken Peplowski and Frank Capp (as in the Frank Capp Juggernaut ) drives the group on drums. Overall a nice driving rhythm section and enough diversity to more than satisfy.

If you like the jazz that came out and was played in the 60's, then this is the CD for you. Take 4 instruments throw in a bass and a set of drums to keep the beat going and you have got some real jazz to keep your foot tapping for the next hour. Plus if you remember seeing Steve Allen doing a number on the Tonight Show in the 60's it is a real walk down memory lane. Even the slow tunes linger in your head for the day until you get back to hear it one more time. Buy this CD you are going to love it.

Steve Allen Plays Jazz Tonight

This is an example of Steve Allen`s limitless talent. He was an exceptional pianist, an outstanding composer and lyricist, and a memorable comedian. This is jazz for everybody.

What a wonderful job Steve did with this cd. He played like he was a natural jazz star. He also attracted a great supporting cast to help him sound brilliant. I can't say enough good things about this cd. I wish there would be more of the same to follow.

The only draw back I have about this cd is the repertoire. A lot of the songs offered on this cd, I didn't know. This was probably becasue Steve used some of his origianl works and some other songs that I didn't particulary know or like.

Recommendation: I Would Like To Recommend This CD
