What a collection!,

I laughed, I cried, I couldn't stop reading. What a collection! I especially loved "Sister Cities" by Colette Freedman. I could totally relate to her telling of one family, with so many ladies- all from the same mother, yet going in so many different directions. And what brings them back together, is definitely worth the read!

Perfect for Theaters and a Great Read,

I highly enjoyed Plays and Playwrights 2009. I found all three of the solo pieces extremely compelling, particularly Tim Collins's A FIRE AS BRIGHT AS HEAVEN. In the play category, I found Colette Freedman's SISTER CITIES mesmerizing, poignant, and quite funny. There is not a bad play in this anthology, which should be a must read for all students of the theatre.

Being a huge fan of independent theater and having seen Colette Freedman's brilliant "Sister Cities" in Los Angeles, where the production rehearsed and pre-viewed it's Edinburgh Festival run, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to see this fantastic play made available, as well as the other gems published with it. "Conversation Storm" is particularly chilling and thought provoking, while "Nowhere on the Border" puts a human face on the ramifications of political policies made with populations, rather than people, in mind.

MUST-HAVE Collection of Plays,

I found the writing in this anthology to be high caliber, rich, and surprising in new ways for the modern theater. Sister Cities by Colette Freedman stands out amongst the rest as a particularly complex and engaging story with real heart and moments of dark humor and tenderness woven throughout the piece. Sister Cities walks the fine line of dark comedy while embracing its audience in the journey of five women seeking answers to life's bigger questions. Remarkable writing. Colette Freedman is a writer to watch for in the future.

Having seen and been blown away by Colette Freedman's play Sister Cities I was thrilled to learn that it is included in this wonderful anthology.
I have now read the anthology from cover to cover and found several plays I will be on the lookout for as well as more venues for Sister Cities.

WOW! I am beyond impressed with the gems in this anthology. Denton has done an absolutely fabulous job compiling a series of riveting plays which universally seem to jump off of the page. My favorite was Colette Freedman's dark comedy "Sister Cities", followed by Eric Bland's "Death at the Film Forum" and Lenora Champagne's "Traces/Faces". I hope to see all of these plays at some point as they all deserve innumerable productions. Kudos to a great collection!!!

I was fortunate enough to see freedman's play Sister Cities at the edinburgh fringe festival 2008.
it was one of those experiences you rarely get in a theatre - auditorium, packed to capacity, the audience, from the start, going with all of the play's many twists and turns. I enjoyed the show so much, but my nose was a little out of joint because there are frankly some brilliant speeches in there and I didn't think it was available in print. I am a very happy camper. Thanks for this book. Sister Cities on it's own is a great play but to get the others to boot - big spectacular extra bonus Really if you're interested in theatre? - you ought to read these plays

A MUST READ!!!,
This review is from: Plays and Playwrights 2009 (Perfect Paperback)
This is the most comprehensive anthology I have read in a long time. These writers are all so talented, it gives me hope for the future of writing. In particular, in the play section, "Sister Cities," by Colette Freedman, touched me in a way that no play has for a very long time. The relationships are so real, the voices so clear. I want to produce this play again and again and share the gift with the audiences of the world! It gives an insight into family relationships and the dynamics that are uncovered when people are forced together under extenuating circumstances like no other play I've read. This is a must read - the entire collection!

This is a great collection. HOSPITAL 2008 is riveting, and SISTER CITIES so timely, and emotionally connected. Glad to see the great art of playwrighting as strong as ever.

I have to say that unlike anthologies I've read where you have to slog through a lot of dull writing to find the gems, this collection really crackles with talent. Krapp, 39 interested me because of the age (sigh)...I really loved SISTER CITIES for its originality and brilliant writing. It's so hard for emerging playwrights to find a place, and it shouldn't be that way for these folks. HOSPITAL 2008 was very inventive as well.
