This album has nothing to do with Sinatra!,

What this album is, is a faithful recreation of the Jimmy Smith/Stanley Turrentine Blue Note albums recorded in the late 50's like Midnight Special (there's a reference to Jumpin The Blues by the guitarist), Plays Fats Waller, Crazy Baby, Back at the Chicken Shack. It's that 'down home' laid back bluesy style that makes you want to groove on down. Don't get me wrong I've grown to love this album although at first I thought it was rather bland. However Joey always delivers the way he only can so just buy it!

Person/DeFrancesco magic!,

This great CD reminds me of the two Houston Person CD's with Joey DeFrancesco issued on Muse Records in the '90's (unfortunately out of print). The musical magic between Person/DeFrancesco has been there for years and the great Turrentine/Smith Blue Note/Milestone sound came to my mind listening to this album. I don't know if Sinatra ever fancied the Hammond B3 (he never recorded with it), but his "Pal Joey" tunes are well suited and treated in this combo. Almost everything in said about Melvin Sparks guitar playing in organ combos and this recording is no exception. Hopefully there are more B3 recording from the vaults with Joey...now he's into Hammond Suzuki digital toys recordings on Concord Records! Sad.

An album that grows on you.,

I bought this and Joey de Francesco's Goodfellas at the same time, and the two albums complement each other very well. The only things missing are a few tracks with Joey singing as well, because he's got a great voice too.

It was very good. Nice comping by the tasty guitar player. Defrancesco is great and only plays with the best.
