The Jazz Side of Andre Previn,

This review is from: Plays Songs By Harold Arlen (Audio CD)
What a treat the jazz piano discs of Andre Previn are. For some reason I had completely missed the discography of one of the great jazz stylists. I knew that Mr. Previn is an insightful conductor of the clasics and had even heard his musicianship in that genre as a pianist live with the N. Y. Philharmonic, but the selections from the American Songbook were something else. He has a style that is right up there with Oscar Peterson and Ray Kennedy. I read the review of his solo album, bought it,and now I am catching up with the rest. He hears the harmonies that Satchmo heard and has a distictive touch that is all his own.Alone: Ballads for Solo Piano
