He's one goofy-looking potato--but that's never been a barrier to his wide "a-peel"! In this kit, preschoolers are introduced to Mr. Potato Head, the tater extraordinaire. With just 13 pieces, the options may seem limited--but only to adults. And once kids figure out the basics of putting Mr. Potato Head together, they'll want to move on to making extraterrestrial spuds: feet where ears should be, and so on. It's oh so silly! All the pieces store in Mr. Potato Head's body, but young ones will need adult assistance to snap the storage compartment door into place. --Ava Natov

Mr. Potato Head just potty trained my 3 year old! After much discussion with her about using the potty, we finally found the trick for her! Each time she went she got to put a piece on her new Mr. Potato head and by the time she was half done with the pieces she was potty trained. I doubt Mr. Potato Head has had such a heroic review.

Why oh why don't I learn to listen to the one-star reviews?! Several customers said the potato head they received was not as pictured. I assumed (wrongly) that they would surely have updated the product photos to reflect the actual product by now. Nope... our Mr. Potato Head came with a completely different (and slightly scary-looking) mouth, and the hat and glasses were completely different.

That, I can live with, but as other reviewers pointed out, the parts don't stay securely in the holes. Mr. Potato comes assembled in the box, but as I was pulling him out, one arm and one ear fell off. So far, the cover of the compartment in back that holds the spare part (the extra mouth) is staying on, and I hope it continues to, but the entire toy feels very cheap and flimsy compared to the Mr. Potato Head I had as a child, so I don't expect this to score high in the long-term durability department.

I gave it two stars because my toddler likes it except for the parts constantly falling out, but I will likely find myself searching the auction sites for a more durable Mr. Potato Head. I'd take the scary-looking version from the 70's over this one.

As a teacher and developmental therapist, I work with children 0-3 and I am never ceased to be amazed at the ingenuity that children have with this toy! It's very versitile! Of course with all children, you have to keep a close eye on them with the small pieces. However, I have found that with careful supervision, I can use this toy with chidren of all ages working on different skills from fine motor skills (grasping, pinching, manuevering the pieces into the holes) to gross motor skills (dancing, moving with the pieces) to cognitive and play skills (naming the parts of the body, putting them in the correct places, making up names for the figure, etc). There are just so many skills that children can learn from this one simple toy. WIth the different pieces, you can take one toy and make it into about a hundred different figures. Children can be creative and make up their own figure (I had a 3 year old who told me her Potato had 3 arms and 2 sets of feet) or be more traditional and keep it to their basic skills. It is a great toy that can be used across all ages. I primarily use this toy with children 0-3, but I have also used it with my older kids up to about 6/7 working on several other skills like their creative and imaginitve skills. I would highly recommend this toy for anyone working with children, whether you are a teacher or a parent or anywhere in between! A MUST HAVE in EVERY toy collection!

I recently bought this toy for my two year old daughters. They love it!!! It took them a little while to figure out how it worked, but as soon as they did, they started playing with it all the time. They can entertain themselves for quite awhile. It was a very good value.

Its been many years since I had a Mr. Potato head, so maybe I've forgotten... Or maybe its cause I was a kid and didn't scrutinize as much, but I just remember Mr. Potato head coming with more stuff. Really for this one the only thing you can "change" are between one set of lips and a tongue. Other than that its one set of eyes, one hat, on set of arms, shoes, etc.

Maybe there are more comprehensive potato's out there that remind me of the toy I used to play with.

The other problem I have with this here Potato is the quality fo the door on the back (where you open to put your parts inside... why do you need that with so few :-P) But seriously, the door doesn't really grab the edges of the opening too well so on our potato so my daughter finds it very easy to punch in the door by accident. Just makes for an overall lackluster experience.

But at the end of the day, they're really only one Mr. Potato Head so whaddya gonna do..... :-/

I don't know if this sounds weird but I was hoping to get the old school Mr. Potato Head. This one seems very new age. The shoes aren't even really shoes, they are actual legs and shoes. Mr. Potato Head doesn't have legs!! He's a potato! Also the mouth is a weird sort of smile with teeth printed on it. Where's the original accessories?

One of the best aspects of this toy is that you get to change the parts on Mr Potato Head. Unfortunately this toy has very few pieces so make sure that you buy some extras if you do buy this. Having said that, my son has loved playing with this all the same but we will be making another spud related purchase soon.

It's your classic Mr. Potatohead and fun for kids. It's just kind of a cheap product. The plastic is flimsy and the pieces don't fit together perfectly, or easily. My two year old loves it, and really tries, but he struggles get the pieces in.
