4.0 out of 5 stars Mini-golf for the preschool set
I've been trying to get fun games for my 3.5 year old that can be played as a family and this has proven to be a hit. The set is easy to assemble - it includes the cute orange gator, and two putters and a pair of light-weight balls [one set in green and the other in yellow].

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work
It looked like so much fun on the commercial! The mouth wouldn't stay open. When it did and you got the ball in, the tail didn't flip. I returned it immediately.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mini-golf for the preschool set, August 26, 2008

I've been trying to get fun games for my 3.5 year old that can be played as a family and this has proven to be a hit. The set is easy to assemble - it includes the cute orange gator, and two putters and a pair of light-weight balls [one set in green and the other in yellow].

The objective is to putt the ball into the little gator's mouth, and each time a putt is successful, the gator returns it with a swish of its tail! The first player to get four points wins the game. This is a great game for counting [the number of putts], improving coordination, building concentration skills and of course, just plain simple fun.

I highly recommend this delightful game for little ones aged 3-5. A value buy for what you get!

Gator Golf is awesome. It introduces your kids early-on to the worst sport ever invented, golf. But thankfully, it's the best part of the sport... putting.

I wish real golf was this fun.

I got this as a christmas present for my 3 year daughter. and she loves it .I like it too because it is something that we can do together. and it give us father and daughter bonding time. I think the toy also teaches good motor skills and hand eye coordination skills as well. but mostly it is fun and simple to do and alot of fun. I like to see my daughters eyes light up when she get the ball into the aligators mouth then watch the ball pop back out . There are time when my daughter is waiting for me to get home so we can play gator golf, these are moments I really look forward to. I would recommend it to any one who don't and can't really afford to spend alot of money on fancy electronic toys because of the messed up economy. and who want to spends fun bonding time with their kid or kids. it comes with 2 putters and 2 balls so 2 people can play together. it is a great yet simple toy with alot of fun .

3.0 out of 5 stars Has some value. But only average in this day & age., January 13, 2009

I'd have to give this Toy only about an average review because it's been around for a long time & hasn't been updated with any improvements even though there are two things that could vastly improve this Toy. A major flaw & aggrevating aspect of this toy is that the mouth has to be manually opened after the ball enters & closes the mouth. Even young energetic children get quickly tired of constantly manually reopening the mouth & it's a bit tricky at times getting the mouth to stay open. Another aggrevating aspect is that the ball does not always get returned after entering & closing the mouth. It's important to also know that this Toy does NOT use any Batteries which customers often don't realize. No Batteries is a benefit to saving Money but causes a lot of manual intervention with the Toy. The Toy has value as an introduction to Golf [Hand & eye coordination.] & young children enjoy hitting the ball around with the Little clubs which are safe & well made.
There is also a very misleading video that circulates [Not on Amazon.] that shows the Toy spinning around after the Ball is hit inside the Gator which is not the case & is false advertising. A couple of the other reviewers here are also extremely specific to the Toys functionality & benefits but ignor to mention any flaws which lead me to believe that these reviewers are unfairly biased & are not giving an accurate & honest review of this product.
This Toy has been around for years & years & has obvious value but it could be vastly improved on if only there was a battery operated mechanism to automatically open the mouth & flip the Ball back more often & more reliably. This would make the Toy much more fun & easier to use for both Children & Parents. Lights & sounds or music could also be incorporated into this toy very easily & would make the Toy more interesting to children. Obviously these improvements would increase the price of this toy but would attract more buyers because of the more modern & up-to-date electronic functionality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gator Golf is GREAT!, October 14, 2008

My son got Gator Golf for his 3rd birthday and loves it! It's great for hand/eye coordination and can be played alone or with the family. The scorekeeper on the golf club is great for counting and the difficulty level of the game can increase as he gets older by standing further from the gator. I highly recommend this toy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible. Stay away at all costs!, December 28, 2009

I honestly don't know how people gave this thing such good reviews. My 5 year old son and I are almost in tears trying to get this thing to work. The mouth doesn't stay open that well, and when it does stay open, it takes a one-in-a-million shot to get it to close the mouth and eject the ball. 99% of the time, the ball gets stuck inside the mouth and you have to go over, try to get it to prop up and retrieve your ball manually.

On the off chance that you do get the perfect shot that triggers the ball return, the gator's mouth is still closed and you have to open it before you can take another shot, which seems to defeat the purpose of the ball return!

Thought this would be a fun indoor game for the kids when the weather got cold, instead it's way more frustration than it's worth! Ours will probably end up in the trash because we already tossed the box and packaging :(

2.0 out of 5 stars Gator Golf is frustrating for preschoolers, January 14, 2009

Gator Golf is a fun idea that unfortunately does not really work. Even I have a hard time hitting the ball exactly right so that it rolls into the tail and flips out. Most of the time the ball rolls into the mouth and the mouth shuts before the ball has a chance to roll into the tail. Then you have to re-open the mouth (which does not like to stay open) and fish the ball out. My kids (ages 5 and 2) get frustrated when they hit the ball into the gator mouth but it doesn't pop out like it is supposed to.

We bought my daughter this when she was about 5 and she loved it. It's a fun game to play by yourself or with others. My husband and I enjoyed playing it with her too. It's a particularly nice activity in the winter. My daughter is now 12 and this is the first toy she picked out for her 3 year old cousin. She still has her gator golf game and still uses it occassionally even though she now goes to the golf course to play golf.

Our two years old loves this game and plays with it constantly. He evens replaces the plastic clubs in the convenient receptacles on either side of the gator's head when he finishes playing. It teaches good eye, and arm coordination. This was an excellent purchase. I would recommend this purchase to a friend.
