Although this isn't perfect, it suits his needs. This little structure fits most of his mini figures, like superhero squad characters, but not the regular sized action figures. For him, it's close enough. It opens/closes and has enough movable parts to keep him and his imagination busy.
It comes with Spidey and Green Goblin but he uses many of his existing action figures as well. As expected, the hard plastic is relatively durable and my 2 yo son is always trying to play with this. The car looks worthless to me but the kids enjoy it as well. The bonus is that I didn't even have to put it together since it came fully assembled.
I keep comparing this with one of my daughter's comparably-priced Barbie houses. This is just lacking in size and features. A small Barbie house would have 4-5 rooms with furniture, each with a purpose. I would have liked to see something like a jail and a command center for the good guys and a mad scientist lab and prisoner cell for the bad guys. Instead we just have a bed and some open "free" play areas.
Don't hesitate to buy this for your Marvel/DC fan! It could be a lot better but for the price of a video game, this piece of portable plastic will last much longer and inspire more creative play.
I love this because it came assembled.
I love this because it contains furniture that is built in (no tiny pieces to lose or for Mom & Dad to step on or vacuum up by mistake)
I love this most because my son has played with this every single day since he got it. I don't see the attraction fading anytime soon.
Points for durability because it is sturdy plastic, the furniture is attached & the movable parts can withstand my 4 year old's active play.
Points for educational value because of the unlimited ways he can use his imagination to play with this. Currently it is home to Spidey & Olivia the pig and Olivia's house-slash-pirate ship (another gift - not as little kid friendly with lots of little tiny pieces) is Grandma's house. It doesn't matter that he isn't playing with it in a super hero scenario - he is having FUN!
Overall I have to say it is bound to be a favorite if you have a young super hero fan that is really into imaginary play.
The really cute part about this particular toy set is that it comes with a small paper story book that feature Spiderman and the Green Goblin in the playset, er, um, I mean Crime Fighting Headquarters. If you are like me and you don't let your little ones watch or read violent cartoons, then you will be relieved to know that the storyline is quite tame, yet is interesting enough that our son has had us read it to him about a bazillion times already. The story line is basically this: The Green Goblin (GG) likes to throw pumpkins out of his window (the green and purple part of the toy), getting pumpkin mush everywhere. Spiderman asks him to stop throwing pumpkins but he refuses, so Spiderman moves in next door (the red and blue part of the toy) and challenges GG to a contest. If Spiderman can catch all of GG's pumpkins, then GG has to clean up the pumpkin mush and stop throwing pumpkins. On the other hand, if Spiderman cannot catch all of GG's pumpkins then Spiderman has to move away and leave GG alone. I'm sure the suspense is killing you... Spiderman wins and the GG has to clean up all the mush, which he actually does. Then he leaves the neighborhood for good. See? Nothing scary. Nothing violent. Totally appropriate for a 4-year old and even for his 2-year old sister. Of course, it is much more interesting in the actual book with the pictures - especially if you read it with the right voices ... Green Goblin's screechy: "III'm the BEST pumpkin smasher in the WORLD! HA HA HA HA!"
