5.0 out of 5 stars Not a true MP3 player, but a great toy!
There are two versions of this toy: this blue one and a pink one. Playskool Dance Along MP3 Girl They're exactly the same toy except for the color. I bought the blue one for my grandson. I really love this toy. And please note the word TOY! Based on other reviews, I guess some people were expecting an honest-to-goodness MP3 player. Are you kidding me? For this price? And...

1.0 out of 5 stars returned it as soon as it arrived
I ordered two of these and returned them the day they arrived. If you are ordering this product make sure you know what you are getting. This is an "MP3" player, not an MP3 player. It doesn't play real music. You can organize 100 songs that are preloaded onto the music player to make play lists. I should have known it was too good to be true with the price. Cute for...

And made by Playskool? Please. Now that I have that off my chest... on to the rest of my review.

This plays music. No words, no voices... just music. And it plays a LOT of music! 100 tunes are included! You can "download" music by inserting the attached cable into the side of the toy. You can NOT download anything from the internet with this toy. Remember... it's a TOY! There are five music categories:

- Classical Melodies - Piano keys at top of screen

- Rock and Dance - Guitar at top of screen

- World Groves - Drums at top of screen

- Rhythmic Rhymes - Goose (as in Mother Goose) at top of screen

- Soothing Tunes - Moon and stars at top of screen

Again... keep in mind that there are no lyrics. Nobody is singing. It's just nice music that little ones will enjoy controlling on their own. I bought this for my 4-year-old grandson, and he loves it!

The screen shows fun things while the music is playing. Not photos... just black-and-white computer generated fun things like a rocket taking off, bubbles, a stick figure dancing, and more.

If you're looking for a real MP3 player, look elsewhere... not in the toy section. But if you're looking for a really good musical toy for a child, this is it. My age recommendation is for youngsters of 3 to 5 years old. They'll be thrilled with this! Older children will want the real thing. But for the younger set, this is a great toy.

Cute for a toddler who isn't yet interested in "real" music.

By the description I read "create playlist" and "dowload cable" so I assumed we were going to hook this to the computer and download some kid friendly songs from playskool. Not the case, it is a cute toy and for now will keep my youngest away from the older siblings real MP3 players.

Cute toy for a toddler. I was disappointed that it didn't include headphones. It is more like a toy radio. It has nice little instrumental songs but my grandchild wanted something with headphones or earbuds to be like her uncles.

2.0 out of 5 stars returning item, November 25, 2006
This review is from: Playskool Dance Along MP3 Boy (Toy)
We ordered one each for our son and daughter. They are not what we were expecting. No lyrics to the songs just music. We are returning them and will shop for items like this in a store so we can have a better idea of what we are getting. I do have to say the shipping was very fast, hopefully the processing on the return will be just as fast.

This is the 2nd Playskool Dance Along MP3 Player for my son. The first is still working, but I always like to have an extra for "emergencies". My son would not have managed his surgeries without this toy. His anxiety of doctors and hospitals did not consume him, he was able to escape with his favorite toy.

I first bought this for my granddaughter when she was 6mo. old. She took it everywhere with her playing music, in the car, stroller, just playing around the house. When she turned 2yr. her little brother came along she would play songs for him all the time. As he started to get around on his own he learned how to play the songs. He just turned 2yr. and the gift suggestion my daughter gave me was another Playskool Dance Along MP3. She told me that the first one finally stopped working about 2monts ago. It stood up to 4yrs. of playing songs, dropping, banging and any other stress a child, and children, could put on a toy. When my grandson opened this one not only did I get a smile from him but my granddaughter began dancing and mom and dad smiled.

I bought this toy because I wanted my son to have portable music that was not bulky and easy for him to use. This was the perfect toy to buy. The music is nice and I don't want to run screaming from the house pulling my hair out. You know what I'm talking about.
This toy is simple for him to use and he know how to download the music!
Now for the adults; This is NOT an MP3 player that connects to the computer. It DOES "download" music, read the instructions that come with it. It has 100 songs stored in the memory. When the "USB" is connected to the side and the center button is pushed new music is "downloaded" from memory. You will find new music listed in each category. I have also noticed that some song lists expand when new music is down loaded. ******When new batteries are installed the "downloaded" music is back to out of box state. No problem it gets down loaded again part of the fun fore the toy.
Even if I was disappointed in this toy, which I am not, my son loves it. He will play with his trains and this toy is close by and he listens to music while he plays. He like downloading the music and doesn't even notice music is missing when batteries are replaced. It's all the same to him. I like that he has learned cause and effect by making the music play, downloading new music and connecting the USB.
As far as I am concerned this is a FIVE STAR toy. If any one thinks this is an actual MP3 player, connects to the computer, etc... reality check needed.

1.0 out of 5 stars not a mp3 player, March 24, 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

My parents bought this for my 5 year old for christmas at walmart for $[...] thinking you could download actual songs and songs from the internet, not the case. It can not hook up to the computer , there are songs on it that your child can download and they are songs that just instrumental music, no singing...My son got bored with it real fast.

If you are looking for something for your kids where you can download actual music onto it plus videos and games I would suggest looking at the Spongebob Digital Player ...I got this for my son last month and he LOVES it

The only plus to this item is that it made where you can drop it and even throw it and it will not break. It may be good for children 2or 3 years of age but as far as 4 and up they are going to get bored with this item fast

We purchased this toy for our three year old son to use in the car when his older brothers are playing Leapster and V-Smile. He thinks it is cool to have a "game" like his older brothers. An older child would definately not be entertained by this toy.
