3.0 out of 5 stars Kota the Dino
I have an 18 month old, a 6 year old and an almost 9 year old at home. We just bought the dino, so I can't rate it's durability, but we were able to pick up the dino at 75% off so we decided to take a chance on it, moreso for my husband than for the kids haha!

Our 18month old is very frightened of it. Really, that is to be expected with a child so young...

"Kota, Kota, Kota ... hahahahaha ..... rrrruuuuuup!" is the new catchphrase at the house lately.

My 18 month old son got one of these recently because his father couldn't resist, ahem. His mother says several times a day that his father is living his second-childhood.

Kota is a Triceratops that (with supervision - in the beginning) your little one can sit on and play with like there's no tomorrow. There's a handle behind the 'ear flaps' to help them stay on as well as a button for music.

The animal responds to voice and touch and makes an array of noises that are all humorous and laughable. My son giggles endlessly every time the thing belches, which is pretty funny.

Lately these toys have become a lot more advanced and much more interesting and interactive for kids. I've bought too many toys that my son just becomes quickly bored of, but both Kota and 'Spike the Dino' are his favorites.

I can't find anything at fault with this toy, and it's a better substitute for climbing on rather than the arms of the couches or trying to maneuver up unto the dining table. This is a good toy worth a few hours everyday. Turning it off also teaches a good lesson about sleeping, or rather "Doo daa doo daa"

The only thing I don't like are the 6 D batteries it uses rather than the rechargeable battery that comes with Spike. It's a minor point though. No biggie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kota - Fun for the parents, December 2, 2008

I agree with the user who's husband was experiencing a second childhood. I bought Kota for the same reason! Many of the Aibo-knock off, digital creatures have been such a disappointment. They are often made of cheap quality plastic and have incredibly limited behavior that is hardly life-like. Kota struck me as a major exception. He's high-quality, easy to assemble, and his behavior is so lifelike that his sounds and movements have often startled me, when I entered my condo in the dark. The battery life is also decent, though I do wish he could be recharged like Spike. The only downside--if it is one--is my 2.5yo toddler is not so enthralled with Kota. Currently, Kota's more of an occasional climbing toy than a dinosaur "friend." I think that may change as my son grows older. For now, I'm certainly enjoying him!

3.0 out of 5 stars Kota the Dino, December 14, 2008

I have an 18 month old, a 6 year old and an almost 9 year old at home. We just bought the dino, so I can't rate it's durability, but we were able to pick up the dino at 75% off so we decided to take a chance on it, moreso for my husband than for the kids haha!

Our 18month old is very frightened of it. Really, that is to be expected with a child so young. We may have traumatized her by placing her on it :D I hope she warms up to it soon, I think she'll really get some use out of it once she isn't so frightened of it.

My 6 year old is very, very happy. He loves to bounce on it, open it's eyes, and roar at it.

My eight year old is enthused and likes to sit on it while the TV has a movie on, or play music by moving the horns. Though it only tends to keep her busy for ten or fifteen minutes, I like that she likes to sit on it and use it like a chair, and a good chair alone costs more than what we paid. And my husband is really fond of it. I went up a notch in his book for getting it :)

The big downer is that the dino doesn't move. If it did, I think the dino would very well be worth the full price. The commercials make it sound like it at least bounces, but no, you have to bounce on it. It takes six D batteries, and hopefully they won't run out too quickly.

The animatronics on this thing is pretty amazing. The eyes, head, mouth, and even horns move. It has great facial expressions and cute sounds.

It's not an amazing toy, but it's pretty neat. I think it's probably the best animatronic toy for your money until they make one that moves around at the size you get this toy as. It is over 30" tall. I think if you have a child that is 2-5, it's a great age range for them. I think over 7 or 8, they'll get bored with it pretty quickly.

I bought this item as a gift for my father, who is simply wild about the triceratops. This item was so easy to assemble. The animatronics are amazing; Kota actually seems to be a living, blinking, bellowing, chomping dinosaur. I almost didn't want to give him away! An adorable toy that any child (or adult) would love.

I bought this toy for my 2-year old grandson and after some initial hesitation on his part, it is now, by far, his favorite toy. He and my son (11 yo) will play with it together for hours while my daughter and I catch up over coffee. I highly recommend this toy!

We ordered Kota for our grandson for Xmas. The dinosaur arrived on time no problem there, however it was defective and not all the sensors were operational. After a single phone call, Hasbro stepped up to the plate. They had requested that we ship Kota's tail back (I guess this was just to prove that we had purchased one). Hasbro paid for the return shipping of the tail and immediately shipped another Kota which operates 100%.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the space in your play room or the money..., December 31, 2008

My mother-in-law bought this for my son for Christmas this year. We were excited about it, but so far, it's kind of a dud. My son is 2 and my daughter is 4 1/2. Both will play with it for about 2 minutes and that's it ... just long enough to turn it on so that it starts roaring and making noise and then leave it in the corner of the room. They seem to both have trouble meaningfully activating sensors to make it purposefully do anything. They do both love to feed it and occasionally my son will (after pushing his step stool over first!) climb on top of it. Both kids are too light to activate the sensors in the sitting area to make it sing songs and such (My daughter is 25% for height and weight as is my son for his age). So, overall, it's cool to look at and it's an interesting concept. The size certainly is impressive, but it's not winning any awards in my house for "favorite toy" ... not yet at least! :-(

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded Expectations, July 14, 2009

As I brought this home, I was thinking, "This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever bought." I'm so glad I bought it anyway. It is perfect for my 4.5 year old because it has the best of all worlds. It roars like a fierce dinosaur, but then it leans in where you rub his face. He is so responsive he feels like a pet, and you can even feed him. He seems so loving and lively that we, the parents, feel like he is real. His stomping motion as you go in riding mode seems very realistic.

One reviewer was disappointed that it didn't move forward. Beyond safety issues, his lack of forward motion is not a negative- the stomping motion is still so realistic, my son and his dinosaur aren't stationary in the playroom at all, but exploring a great dinosaur jungle in his mind.

I got Kota for my 3 year old daughter for christmas. She is absolutely in love with dinosaurs. She loves him!!!! We now have roaring contests to see who can get him to roar back. He was so easy to assemble, very light, and realistic enough for her. I recommend anyone with a dinosaur loving child to get one. Be ready though he is very large and takes up alot of space. With his movements he cannot be placed against anything. Oh and don't forget to turn him off, he responds to sounds and he can startle you when you walk into an un occupied room.

My daughter loves dinasaurs and when she was little she always talked about them. She is 19 and we saw a similar version of the one I purchased at a local Toy store but this is so much better. I got it for her dorm at college and she loves it. I wish they had it around when she was little. It is a little pricey but well worth the expense if a child loves dinasaurs. It is well constructed and interacts with a touch of the hand. I really don't know how it will hold up under the hands of a little one but it is very sturdy and well made with lots of different responses with a simple touch. Much better than a just a big stuffed toy.
