Toy Encourages Coordination and Motor Skills

This toy helps your child practice hand-eye coordination and develops fine motor skills through grabbing balls from the elephant's tummy and dropping them in the elephant's ears. It also provides a fun way for children to learn cause and effect. When a child drops balls into the toy, the balls pop out in a different place.

Even babies will enjoy grabbing the colorful, lightweight balls from the elephant's tummy and watching them pop up through its trunk.

Lively Music Engages Children

This toy plays a variety of upbeat music for your child to enjoy. A large button on the elephant's hand makes it easy for your little one to switch between songs. One young tester loved the noise, but was startled by the popping balls.

The noise made by the toy--akin to a vacuum cleaner in a video arcade--may become tiresome to adults with extended play. Fortunately, children can engage in put-and-take play even when the toy is in the "off" position, but an adult will need to tip the elephant over to dislodge balls placed in its trunk. Even when the toy was turned on, our tester found that balls occasionally did not pop as they were supposed to and required adult intervention.

Sturdy Construction Ideal for Young Children

The sturdy design of the plastic elephant makes this an ideal toy for babies eager to practice sitting, crawling, and pulling up. Your child can sit and watch the elephant as it shoots balls from its trunk or crawl after the colorful balls. The toy is also stable enough that your child can use it to assist in pulling up.

The toy's movable, air-powered trunk can be positioned to pop balls towards one of the ears or across the room. An adult will need to move the trunk into place as it is too difficult for a child to manipulate. During assembly, the stabilizer and ears also required a large amount of force to click into place. That said, the setup was straightforward and quick, taking less than 10 minutes, and required just four D batteries (not included).

What's in the Box

Elefun Busy Ball Popper, five balls, four D batteries, and instructions.

Product Description

This busy ball popper is re-imagined into an adorable elephant building off the character of Elefun. Baby will squeal with delight as the balls pop out of the Elephant trunk, onto the floor or through the ears and his belly. With a moveable trunk, mom can now control the level of chase-me play to grow with her child. It includes an easy-press activation button, ten songs and five balls.

Lot's of Elefun! September 17, 2011
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Length: 2:44 Mins
The Playskool Elefun Busy Ball Popper comes from a long line of Playskool ball poppers. Stop. Try to say that sentence five times fast! They all have one thing in common, and that is that kids, mainly toddlers, love them. The Elefun Busy Ball Popper is also lots of fun, but while it looks cooler than some of the others - it doesn't quite bring the smiles as the Playskool Explore and Grow Busy Ball Popper.

A few notes -

- Requires 4 D batteries
- Does not have an adjustable volume - so it only one setting, "LOUD"
- The trunk on the elephant rotates. When the balls "pop" to the elephant's right they roll into the elephants belly - where they are stored. When the balls "pop" to the elephant's left they roll back into the trunk where the elephant blows them back up into the air (See the video).
- The ball are shot into the air using a small fan that is located near the elephant's trunk
- Comes in two colors, blue and pink.
- Again, the design is cooler than the standard Playskool Busy Ball Popper

Final Verdict - This is a loud, but fun toy for your toddler. While our daughter prefers the standard Playskool Explore and Grow Busy Ball Popper both toys are staples of day cares throughout the USA.

Fun for her, work for me. October 18, 2011
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
For a child, this toy is alright. It is colorful, has a cute design, and plays music. But I've seen other ball poppin' toys, and in comparison, this one is a pain.

The main problem is the balls do not pop into the ear, which is supposed to catch the balls, then return them to the poppin' part. So the result is, I spend a lot of time chasing the balls around the room and returning them to the toy. The end of the trunk rotates so you can control which way the balls pop out, but even when it is positioned towards the ear, the air flow is variable (intentionally) and the balls still end up rolling on the floor. The intention of this feature is to encourage your child to move, and chase after the ball. But really, what 1-3 year old will do this? Maybe one or two times, but then it becomes like cleaning up. And no child thinks about cleaning up their messes! This toy just makes a mess that I have to clean up, with balls rolling in all directions around the room.

My other main complaint about this toy is the noise. Yes, to have the air flow be powerful enough to spout balls out it has to make some noise, but it is so loud that my child wouldn't even come in the room with it on for the first two weeks! And the music is not catchy. Most playskool toys have really catchy tunes, that I'll be humming through the day. This one has "10" (I can't make out ten distinctive tunes) which are just alright.

And third, the air flow is bad. It is either too much or too little, and the balls end up just hovering at the top of the trunk, so I'll have to grab it, and push the other balls in to get the flow going again, because once it stops, my child usually just walks away. I tried new batteries, but it's the same. A good toy wouldn't require so much interaction from me.

Overall, I give this toy two thumbs down. The concept is there, but it was not developed properly. I am highly suspicious that this toy was created by people without children, who don't understand that kids will get bored if it doesn't work, and they don't like cleaning up!

Cute but loud September 20, 2011
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
As the description notes, make sure you have 4 D batteries, I bought more in case the machine dies (while my daughter is using it and not having backup is not a good thing), or else the elephant will not work. I had them on hand when I received the toy. Removing it from the box and putting it together did not take long. I carefully wiped off the elephant with a nonbleach disinfectant wipe and also cleaned the balls carefully with soapy warm water. You never know what type of germs are at the factory, warehouse, packing, you name it.

I had a concern about the unit since my daughter has a fear of the blow dryer. If I blow dry my hair in the same room with her she gets upset from the noise. The elephant has a loud noise like a blow dryer since it has to suck and blow the balls. Keep in mind it might not be as high of a pitch as a blow dryer but it is rather loud. I cannot talk to my daughter when the `blower' of the elephant is running it is that loud. If I am playing with her she seems OK with the sound, tolerates it since she is more interested in trying to figure out where the balls are coming from and how to get them back into the elephant. She also has figured out, accidentally, that if you touch the elephant's left hand it turns on the unit (blower). That has scared her a few times. After playing with it for a few weeks she has figured out how to operate it but does not seem that interested in it for a long time. Plus, the sound is loud that I only let her play with it during the morning/day so it does not upset her at night. I tried to let her play with it after dinner one evening but she is usually cranky then and did not like the sound.

All in all, it is really cute, colorful, and oddly enough has a small footprint. I thought it was going to be a lot bigger than it is but it is easy to store in the corner of my daughter's room with the balls in it. There is a power off button so you do not have to worry about hitting the hand and the balls blowing. Besides being loud, I worry if the balls get lost how I can replace them. I have wood floors and when the light balls hit it they go flying everywhere! I fear them getting thrown behind a piece of furniture and I can't retrieve it. Again, if you do not mind spending the money on the D batteries and the loud noise I think your child/children will find this playful. However, if they are like my daughter, it will not keep their interest for a long period of time.

Too loud!
Cute concept, but has lots of flaws as others have mentioned. Bottom line, it's just too loud! It hurts my ears! Certainly don't want my baby exposed to it.
