I'm a total DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) Newbie. (For now.) And this is the pad I've chosen to start with. This is the least expensive pad of reasonable quality I have found yet. It is a soft pad and can be folded. But you really should remember to fold it in thirds so the stepping areas don't get creased. (I don't know what happens when the stepping buttons get creased, and I don't plan on finding out.) I have a somewhat cushy carpet, but that combined with the softness of the pad, it does NOT seem to negatively affect the sensitivity of the controller. There does tend to be a little bit of slippage during play. (They do include some sticky disks that are supposed to help with that, but I want to be able to put the pad away so I'm a little dubious. I can probably fix the problem with some self adhesive Velcro or something.) But the slippage is not enough to seriously hinder gameplay for a fair number of rounds. (At least, not the way I dance, your mileage may vary.) Even without sticky stuff or Velcro, it's not big deal to step off the pad between songs and nudge it back into place with your toe. The bottom is a smooth neoprene, the top is vinyl, and the padding in between sounds like crunchy plastic type material. No, this is not the best made pad in the world. But it's a good pad at a good price. If you're just starting out and you're not sure that this type of game is for you, or if you're just on a limited budget, you would do well with this dance pad.

I bought DDRMax2 and a pad like this a little over a month ago at an electronics store on a whim, and I must say, I've had a whole lot of fun with it, and I've recently joined my school's DDR club. If you're browsing around for a teen or older kid's birthday gift (like 7 or 8+ as a younger kid might not have the coordination for this sort of thing and would get frustrated) or looking for a fun hobby for yourself, DDR is a good choice.
As to the pad itself, it should go without saying that it is NOT a top quality pad (get an expensive metal one like redoctane or cobalt flux if you want something really good), but for a beginner, you can't do much better than this. I've played on a few other cheap pads, and this seems to be the best of its price range. It has the slip-resistant foam bottom layer which makes all the difference in the world. It still creeps backwards (DO play on a hard surface, not carpet. Buy a piece of plywood and duct tape the pad to it if you have to), and I don't think you'd do so hot on Heavy mode, but if you're just starting out, it's not a big deal to stop every couple of songs and nudge it back in place. Also, keep in mind that this pad isn't going to last forever. I've only had mine a month and it still works well, but I've been told by several serious players not to expect more than 2-5 months of moderate use out of a pad like this before it tears or becomes unresponsive. In conclusion, if you're just starting out, go ahead and buy this pad and play on it until it's worn out. If at that point you're still serious about this game, *then* you might want to invest in something more expensive.

I bought this pad at an electronic store today and tried it out. It was a lot better than the Mad Catz dance pad that i had bought for the same price. The pad is thicker and the buttons are closer together (almost like the arcade version). It is more sensitive than mad catz, and it has cute little lights on the controller part of the mat that lights up when you press an arrow. The mat doesn't run as much because of the non slip bottom and it comes along with four round double sided sticky things that you can add if you plan on leaving the mat out. A great mat for a cheap price, but if you want the best go for a metal pad.

This is the 2nd pad ive got for my DDR Max 2 Ps2 game. The first one was the one konami makes that can be purchased in a bundle. This Dance pad revol. 2 pad is durable, doesnt slip (unless your on carpet) and is of good size. The downside is this is a thing pad, made of a plastic type material. So, it fit me in the beginning stages of playing, and still hasent broken. However, i have gotten better with practice, and the arrows get faster as i go. This means your feet get moving faster. I have found that this pad kind of scrunches up when your moving to faster songs. So, if your a more advanced DDRer, then I would go for a pad with one of those foam insterts in there. Overall, decent pad, depending on what level your at. Also, if you buy this pad, the box is kind of small. I would recomend flattening it out before use. Maybe heavy books or rocks on the corners overnight.

I purchased this Dance Pad about half a year ago and it's still works great. It's farily thick for a plastic pad and doesn't slip around too much. The buttons are super sensitive compared to other pads I've tried. This one surtainly works better than a similar, cheaper one by Mad Catz, which slips around insanely even on carpet and the buttons require some serous stomping to get them to work. So, if you're willing to shell out about $30 for the Dance Pad Revolution 2, you won't regret it. I use mine constantly and it has yet to rip!

When I first purchased this pad (not off of Amazon; I bought it at GameStop (...), it seemed pretty cool. I had just purchased the game, and was ready to play it with the dance pad. It seemed pretty good at first; I was pretty careful with it when I danced, because I had read reviews on all sorts of pads that stated they broke a few weeks into use.
Although I put it away after use, it seemed to hold up pretty well. I had a few complaints about how it moved a bit after every song, but I rearranged it rather easily. (I didn't use the provided things to attatch the pad to the floor so it wouldn't move - partially because the pad was on thick carpet -, so I don't know if it would have stayed in place better if I had used those.) The only things I found wrong with it were, 1) the pad didn't light up (it states on the box that it should), and 2), it made a little crunching sound when I danced on it, so I was a little worried about that. But after doing things repeatedly, you get better. And so after a few weeks of dancing (I think about two or three), the arrows became rather unresponsive when I stepped on them. Perhaps the response mechanisms inside had slipped to another part of the pad; I don't know. In any case, the pad soon was, unfortunately, unusable. Overall, this pad was good for a while; but after you start getting A's and AA's on songs, it may wear out. (P.S. I haven't purchased another pad since; but someone gave me two heavily used MadCatz pads that have held up well until recently.)

I bought this pad for my 7 yr old daughter who absolutely loves DDR. This mat was perfect for her. It's not the most expensive, or the best built DDR pad out there, but I wasn't looking to go "all out on expense" with this. It has turned out to be a terrific buy. She and her friends have had hours of fun with this pad/game!! She uses it in our carpeted den, and there's a slight bit of slipping, but overall it's been perfect.
Our older kids (teens) have enjoyed it as well, and it has held up for a year so far! Can't beat that for the price!

This DDR pad is a great purchase because it's great for beginners. It works perfectly on any type of floor but I would recommend not using it on carpet because it tends to slip a little. I didn't have any trouble dancing the different difficulties but if you're looking for a durable pad, especially if you have a lot of people trying it, you should buy the more expensive ones. When you fold this pad, make sure you don't crease any of the buttons because I did and I had trouble with one of my arrows. It's fine now, I just don't fold it at all. This game is good for those that are 7 and older. I think everyone should try it because TV is the best place to see how much people desperately need DDR.
Overall this is a great work out for anyone and it's lots of fun at a great price. It was worth my money!

For the price, this pad is worth it. I've had two of these dance pads for about a year now, and had only minor problems with them.
One of the pad's left arrows stopped working, but for the abuse it's been through, this does not surprise me. I am a 15 year old girl who plays on light mode and mostly standard songs. On weekends, usually about 5 of my friends come over and we all play DDR. Once or twice, my friends have played with work boots on! I have had a couple of problems with these pads. Once you start playing on standard/heavy mode, the pads WILL start to slip. My simple solution was duct taping one of the pads to the floor, but not all parents or household owners may appreciate that idea. Also, the sensors sometimes get a little out of place, but none of mine have gotten so out of place that it's become unusable. Overall, I'd say this is still a very good product for its price. I have spent numerous hours playing DDR and have enjoyed the fun workout!

This pad is great! I previously had the MadCatz one, which I admit was a used pad, but it was awful - you'd press the up arrow and the back arrow would go down too. Awful. So I got this one and it's great!! Everything works properly. If I had to make one complaint I would say that it's a little noisy when stepping on due to the material it's made out of. However, it is right on target when you dance, and I have not had a problem at all. I totally recommend this one for novice and intermediate dancers.
