Overall, I think this controller is okay. I've been playing with this controller for about a couple weeks now. Here is my review:

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, April 1, 2008

This review is from: Playstation 3 HORI PAD 3 Turbo Wireless - Silver (Accessory)
I bought this controller just for Call of Duty 4. I have mixed feeling about using it. First the controller is pretty well built doesn't feel cheap. The turbo feature works really well for me since I prefer the single shot rifles and I am able to use it as a full automatic weapon. BUT!!! it is hard to aim with this controller. The analog stick is very sensitive. Even with sensitive setting set to the lowest, I am still aiming wildly. I am able to aim if I move the analog stick very lightly, but it's very slow that way. Maybe it's because I only had it for two days and still use to.

UPDATE.
I just noticed the sensitivity option in the game menu. After it to low, the controller works much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars First turbo controller for the PS3, August 21, 2007

So my first impression of this controller was that it feels cheap. The plastic housing just feels light and cheap, not at all like the Sony controller.

This unit also doesn't include bluetooth, so you loose the ability to power on your PS3 like you have on the normal controller.

It works a lot like the PS2 wireless controllers in that you plug in a USB wireless transmitter into the PS3 and play through that.

It does have several nice options. The turbo selector allows 3 different rates of fire, along with the option to have auto fire where you don't even have to press the button. That is a great option for any shooter. There is also a sensitivity adjustment for the analog control sticks. I also really like that it uses AA batteries since I have a good supply of rechargeable batteries.

But my first big issue is that it doesn't appear to work on PS2 or PS1 games. Pretty much any time the PS3 does the soft reset to start those games the controller looses sync. It works just fine with any game that doesn't involve that reset (PS3 games, or anything downloaded from PSN).

So if you just need a turbo controller for PS3 or PSN games, this is about your only choice. But don't expect to use it on any of your older games. Since this does everything but older games and feels cheap, I had to give it 4 stars. It's good, but not perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Controller for the PS3, February 23, 2008

This review is from: Playstation 3 HORI PAD 3 Turbo Wireless - Silver (Accessory)
First off, I bought this from electrogalaxy on Monday and had it before the weekend in perfect condition. Excellent work on their and UPS's part.

Second, this controller is perfect for me. Maybe they've changed the quality since the last reviewer bought it, because it doesn't at all feel cheap. The plastic's actually much smoother and more polished looking than the sixaxis.
A possible downside might be the smaller, concave analog sticks. They're actually better for sensitive movements, but it's hard to adjust from the giant analog sticks on the official Dualshock/Sixaxis line of controllers.

The features all work perfectly. This is really THE controller to have if you're playing Call of Duty 4. For instance, CoD4 doesn't allow you to switch between firing modes. However, with the turbo, you can turn a single fire rifle into a burst or even full auto rifle. Nice.

The sensitivity adjuster is also great. Some shooters (CoD4 in particular) haven't struck a proper balance between sensitivity in first person mode, and in sniper scope mode. This makes it much more difficult than necessary to switch between the two. The sensitivity switch on the analog has proven very effective. It's also useful because sensitivity often translates to how quick you can turn around (and you ideally want to be able to turn around quickly and then have enough control to take down anyone on your six). Make sure you give the instructions a quick read, though. The sensitivity switch was counter-intuitive for me (i.e the diagram makes it look like the least sensitive setting is on the left, when it's actually on the right), so at first I wasn't happy with it.

The controller takes AA batteries. A usb charger system would probably be more convenient (especially as I have a usb extension cord and a laptop right by my gaming area), but, I also have plenty of rechargeable AA's-- as do most people nowadays. Just be aware you might need to grab an extra pack, as none are included.

The only real flaw is the lack of bluetooth, which doesn't bother me considerably. You can keep a sixaxis around to power it remotely and then tap the ps button on the Hori and use it. Not a big deal to me anyway, as I have my gaming system setup in such a way that I have to turn stuff on manually (and also I like to switch off my ps3 rather than leaving it running in standby). However, if it does concern you, you can just use the regular controller as a remote and still use the Hori quite simply.

All in all, it's a great controller that's enhanced my gaming experience. I hope they expand the features at some point to switch between programmable button sets like the Thrustmaster controller has. I'm also getting one of those for my friends to play with (so rather than going into the menu every time they switch controller, they can program their button configuration once and press a button to switch them.) It doesn't look nearly as good as this one though.

If you want turbo and analog sensitivity, you won't go wrong here. I'll post back if any issues about longevity come into play, but even if they do I'd probably replace it without any fuss.

The HORI PAD 3 Turbo is a fine controller. The turbo button works great for the "shooter games"; I use it with COD4 and turn all the semi auto guns to full auto. It's cool that you can set up ANY button with the turbo. I'd say the biggest down side to this controller is that its nipples are vary small but after playing with them for a while you get used to it. It also feels kind of cheap but I'll take it for the price. Overall I am happy with it.

I read various reviews about this controller. Some good some bad. Still I purchased it on recommendation from another online player.

I only play Tiger Woods Golf (08 & 09) with it, so my experience is limited to this franchise only.

This was purchased mainly for the Turbo function, however I can get 105% - 118% by using tap.

Virtually don't have to worry about Hook or Slice.

This controller may not work as well in other games, but my experience in Tiger has been great!

Wish I had purchased it sooner.

UPDATE: Still using it now for Tiger Woods 10, no problems to date.

3.0 out of 5 stars Horipad 3 Review - Some Thoughts, February 1, 2011

Overall, I think this controller is okay. I've been playing with this controller for about a couple weeks now. Here is my review:

The Good:

# The controller looks pretty cool. It's fatter than the Sony Sixaxis controller. The one I bought was silver, which looks better than the black Sixaxis ones, imo.

# There's no dumb lights on it like many rapid fire controllers

# The turbo function is really easy to learn and use. I mastered it in about 15 minutes.

# There's a sleep function on the controller.

# It's sturdy. As long as you don't throw your controller, or something like that, this seems like it would last a long time.

# The highest rapid fire mode is pretty fast. It's about 12 times per second.

# Wireless, and works with AA batteries, as opposed to a USB charger. I like this better. I always used to lose my PS3 USB cord.

Neutral:

# It could be frustrating because it's so different from the Sixaxis controllers.

# The rapid fire function might not work with all games. I can confirm that it works with Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2.

The Bad:

# The analog sticks can be annoying because they aren't as good as the Sixaxis ones. They're much less sensitive to finger movement, making it harder to aim.

# The buttons are less sensitive than the Sixaxis ones. Sometimes, in a gun game, for example, if you ease into a button such as the trigger button, the gun might not shoot at all. You have to jam the R and L buttons down much harder than the Sixaxis ones.

Overall, I would say that this controller is a good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like, March 23, 2010

I only use mine for golf online and when a game has a button mashing sequence in it. I don't use it regularly for other games like Cod etc....

I have a hard time with button mashing sequences in games, because I had a accident 5 yrs ago causing my right hand to be slower than normal. So for me its a life saver during those times.

The small joysticks took some getting used 2 but yea i will definitely buy another when my current 1 breaks or something

I saw another review stating it doesn't work with ps1 games but it does as I used it for ps1 MGS1, when snake gets captured

This is a decent turbo controller for a ps3. I bought mine 4 months ago and is still working. It gives you three type of turbo, slow pace into a fast pace. it also gives you the option to make the sensitively of the thumb stick fast or slow. it does have a ps button but does not turn the ps3 on but still better than none.it can turn all buttons into turbo mode except for the 'select'-'ps'-'start' buttons. it also has a battery saver mode, where it can automatically turn it self off automatically if not touch in a set amount of time. i played some call of duty 4 and it works very good for shooting very fast which sometimes gives you the upper hand, but the down side is that the controller doesn't feel right, its shape is rather too big and the thumb stick is rather too small and feels somewhat like the first controller of the regular xbox,(yea the big bulky one) and the ps2 controller combined together. I don't know why people says it doesn't work for ps1 and ps2 games, but mine works for my ps2 games so far, but i haven't tried it for ps1 games because i don't have any ps1 games, maybe it depends on what version your ps3 is. Mine is the first original 80 gb that came out with motorstorm. If your using this controller for fighting i don't recommend it, because the keypad doesn't respond well when pressed. It feels like delayed about half a second or less before it can respond, but still playable if you can get use to it. it also works on your pc games if the game have the keypad controller option, i used my on halo for the pc and it works very good, better than i expected. Overall its an okay turbo controller with some minor flaws, that works for my ps3 and ps2 games.

This is a great Gampad that works with the PS3 and the PC. This gamepad has the Turbo function that is easily enabled or disabled per button rather than a univrsal clear etc. The only complaint I have is it's really not made for a person with big hands, but that can be said for most of them. It's definitely worth the buy though.
