The best bottle for breastfeeding babies!,
By "kylahsmom" (Shakopee, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Playtex Drop-Ins Original BPA Free Nurser Newborn Starter Set (Baby Product)
I have used a lot of different kinds of bottles on my three children. I lived in a small town when I had my first child 7.5 yrs ago, and the Playtex nursers were not available to me. I did use them with my second child and when my third baby was born, I knew that I wanted to use these when I gave her a bottle. She was totally breastfed but I kept her used to the bottle so that her daddy and grandparents could feed her also. I too tried the Avent brand of bottles and to say the least was rather disapointed! They leaked all over everything! I like the Playtex nursers because of the nipple variety. It is much easier to buy the next size or kind of nipple then to buy a whole new set of bottles. I like the fact that you can push all the air out of the bottle before feeding the baby. I also have to say that I like the bags better than the drop-ins because the measurement markings are clearer on them. If you are going to be giving your baby a bottle at all, I would highly recomend skipping all the new fancy bottles and go with something that has been proven to work well in reducing air intake while your baby eats! Go with Playtex nursers! They work great!!

Okay - I was one of those new moms who had no clue about which bottles of the many types to use for my baby. I read all of the online reviews and decided I would get a couple of each type and try them all. I have the Avent bottles, Dr. Brown's, Gerber, you name it, I have a ton of them.
I exclusively breatfeed my baby and everyday he gets a bottle with his medicine in it along with the bottles I pump for when we will be somewhere that's difficult to breastfeed. In my opinion, this system is HANDS-DOWN THE BEST. Here's what I like: The liners are sterile so you can always be sure your baby is drinking out of a clean bottle. Nothing to wash but the nipple and ring. Its so quick and easy, especially when you are in a hurry or in the middle of the night when its harder to think straight. When he's done, just toss the drop in and wash the nipple and you are ready for your next bottle. My baby didn't struggle with swallowing air using this bottle like the others I tried because you push the air out. It worked much better for him than the Dr. Brown's bottles. Using these, he didn't struggle with gas pains afterwards. He switched with no problems from a very early age between the breast and this bottle type. It comes with various nipples to try and the breastfeeding nipple works great for him. Here is the only downside: You cannot pump directly into the liners - but that is not a big deal to me. I pump into the Medela CSF bags and store those. When I am ready to make a bottle, I pour it out of the CSF bag and into the liner. It became routine and its not a problem for me to take that extra step. Good luck in making your choices about bottles for your baby but from a new mom whose tried them all, these really are the best all around.

A must for bottle feeding,
By Angela Kraemer (North Bellmore, NY United States) - See all my reviews

We were using the single feeding bottles we got from the hospital and noticed how much air the baby was getting from the bubbles forming in the bottle during feedings. We also had a hard time getting her to eat more and she was starting to lose weight. We switched over to the Playtex system after a recommendation from our sister-in-law and we have had a lot less problems w/gassiness occuring during feedings. The drop-in liners are easier to use than the other liners and seem to measure out better than the other liners as well. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is thinking of bottle feeding their baby.

Mom/Daycare provider - Love this product,

I am a mother of a 3 month old and 4 year old. I also run a daycare out of my home. I am using Playtex with by newborn, as well as used it with my older daughter, and have had great success with it. I like the standard bags better myself becuase they are cheaper. I buy the Target brand of liners and they work fine. As a daycare provider, I like the Playtex system because I only have to rinse out the nipple after a feeding (leaving formula in a regular bottle all day makes for a tough time for mom at home). I also like that my breastfeeding moms can freeze their milk in a bag and all I need to do is set it in a glass of warm water to thaw and heat. You can close the bag by folding it over and securing with a paperclip or piece of tape (as long as you don't need to store your milk for an extended period of time) and store in an upright position in the freezer or refrigerator. I recommend this product to all my parents and friends.

The only Bottles You'll Ever Need.....,

I breastfeed my son and recently started supplementing with bottles. My mother highly recommended the Playtex Nursers (that's all she ever used) and bought me this set after I had terrible luck with some other bottles. My breastfed baby readily took this bottle with virtually no fussing (and less burping, gas and spitting up). After experimenting with the other nipple shapes I found that my son prefers the regular shaped nipple, but I liked that I could try them all out with one purchase. I've recently bought some extra Older Baby nipples, and of course, liners, but other than that, this set has provided me with more than enough "equipment" and I'm sure it's the only set of bottles I'll need.

I started out on the Avent bottles becasue that seemd to be the big hype. Everyone was telling me how good they are, so I bought some. Well, not for my baby. Then I went along with what both my sisters used and bought the playtex starter set. EXCELLENT. The flow is perfect and it is very easy to get all the air our of it. Plus, I love just dropping in a sterilized bag. The only downside is that the bags don't measure perfectly, so what I do is just measure in a standard bottle and then pour it into the drop in. No big deal for me, but it may be a hassle for some. Other than that, I would highly reccommend these bottles. The box even has a measuring hole that you can put your nipple in to test if it is worn out or not (just look on the side flap). Hope this helps.

The only bottles for my babies!!!!!,

Four years ago our son was born. I knew for a fact the I would be breastfeeding but what about bottles. I was completely lost on which brand was the best to use. I did my research and read the reviews. The Playtex disposable set seemed to be the best choice for me and baby. (His Pediatrician also receommened them above the rest to control gas intake.) It was wonderful! These bottles were easy to clean, easy to fill, and a joy to give to my son. I watched the plastic bags deflate as he drank and it felt good to know that he wasn't taking in excessive air. My son rarely had gas and spat up even less than that. I also loved the convenience of the diposable drop-ins and liners. The drop-ins are more convenient but I found that the liners held more liquid. We are expecting our second child in March and without a doubt the Playtex disposable set is the only one for me. Your baby will thank you too!!!

Great Bottles,

I love using the Playtex bottles with my kids. It is certainly a wonderful bottle. The drop-in liners are easy to use, and the wide bottle opening is great for powdered formula. No more messes! I like being able to change the style and size of the nipples based on my children's ages. There is also a nipple-like spout you can purchase for when the kids are around 6 months old. This makes a good transition from bottle to sippy cup. My only disappointment is you can't freeze breastmilk in this bottle or in the drop-in liners. If you plan to do alot of that, a nondisposable system would be better.

Wonderful Bottles!,

I recieved these bottles at my baby shower from a friend. I had originally planned on breast feeding, but soon changed my mind. For the first 3 months my son had colic and was put on Enfamil's Nutramigen. This formula leaves a waxy coating on any surface and does not come off with just soap and water. The Drop-in liners were wonderful because I didn't have to sterilize the bottles after each use. They can also be placed on the top rack of the dishwasher to be cleaned thoroughly, which I did once a week. Playtex also make many different nipples. After trying my son on the traditional nipples, I switched to another type, and did not have to buy all new bottles. The liners are also great because you can push all of the excess air out before feeding. And now that my son holds the bottle himself, I know that he will only be drinking the formula instead of air. The Drop-ins make it easy to prepare bottles while holding onto your child. The designs are great on the bottles. I would recommend these bottles to everyone.

Classic bottles,

These are one of only a few brands of bottles out there that has a variety of nipples so if your baby doesn't like one nipple, you can try the others. Most other bottles only offer one nipple and if your baby doesn't like it, you have to buy a completely different set of bottles. These bottles are also interchangeable with the Playtex Premium bottles, so you can have a variety of colors and designs. Get an extra box of liners for each size. These are easy to clean, just toss the liner and wash the bottle in warm, soapy water. Not scrubbing with a bottle brush to get the lump of formula out of the bottom. :c) |
