It's a great starter cup to teach the baby to use the straw.
Joel Maxwell
I love the squeeze feature in this cup, it helped her understand the concept of it because the water was just at the tip of the straw.
Teresa Borlaug
The cup part is hard plastic and there's no squeezing it and definitely no liquid going up the straw.

Pros: has a straw so that kids can drink while sitting up, even if they haven't mastered tipping the cup waaaaay back to let gravity do its thing.

Cons: *takes a deep breath* Here we go...
Leaks - These things leak. That's the one thing they're supposed to prevent, and they fail. They leak out the straw. They leak out the seal. They just leak.
Liquid squirts - They don't have a air pressure relief hole, so as the contents of the cup warm up to room temp, expanding air pressure forces liquid back through the straw and out onto your coffee table. If you're unlucky enough to have closed the straw lid before the cup warmed up and then you flip the straw back into ready position, you get a nice 2-3 foot jet of whatever was in the cup. Awesome science lesson (Boyle's law)!
Straw length - Too short. Lots of liquid remains in the bottom. If that's milk, then you throw away lots of sour milk remnants. It also insures that rather than drinking the cup dry, your child will have plenty of liquid to drizzle around the house, see above.

I would really love these if they worked, but sadly they don't. I'm about to throw away two because I spend a huge part of my day mopping up milk dots from all over the house.

The 6 oz size cup is a redesigned version of the original 7 oz size, and is vastly superior. For one, the straw reaches the bottom of the cup, so no more unreachable drink left in the bottom. Second, the cup now has a valve covered hole that allows the pressure to equalize when the liquid warms leading to no more overflow of the straw. The straw sits more securely in the lid and protection against liquid spilling if turned upside down. In short, all my major complaints about the original have been fixed. The cup can still be squeezed to encourage your little one to suck for drink. Sure it is a bit tough to squeeze, but that keeps the child from squeezing it themselves (think about those messy juice boxes).I only had to squeeze the cup once and my 7 month old had it figured out. Nothing unnatural about the drinking technique required either - same sucking action used for any straw, Once they grasp the concept of a straw, you will always be able to get them a drink at any restaurant, even if you forget or loose the sippy cup.

This is the only "sippy" cup I have been able to get my 8 month old to drink out of. We have tried them all and he got the hang of this one. Yes the straw could be a little longer but other than that it is great. He won't hold it yet but that is because he is stubborn but other than that I love the cup. I originally bought it from Walmart for $4.97, came on here to order some more because normally Amazon is cheaper, needless to say I am going back to Walmart.

There are two very different cups advertised as one here on amazon. The 6 ounce version is awful…it doesn't just leak, it pours. I accidentally ordered the 6 ounce version (silly me for not remembering from 2 years ago that it was the 7 ounce version I preferred). I recently re-ordered the 7 ounce version of this cup. Amazon needs to split up the two versions because they are two very different cups. When my oldest was 6 months old, she used this cup almost entirely for 6 months. It is pricey ($6+) for one cup but it works and it is as leakproof as any good kid cup can get. The 6 ounce one has the same "clicking" noise when you close it so that parents have a false sense of security when they hand it to their baby who, in less than 30 seconds, will be soaked. The 7 ounce one has the same "clicking" noise but it actually seals. No, there is no one way valve in the cup. I hate those though because they just become choking hazards when I inevitably drop them on the floor. These cups break down nicely to go into the baskets in your dishwasher to include the straw. We use these for water so I can't speak to how they work with milk or juice. One of the reviewers did mention that if the environment heats up (i.e. when you leave it on the floor of the car on a hot summer day), then the pressure will build up in the cup and explode out of the straw…that is true with ANY sealed cup (it's science folks).

I got this cup at the recommendation of the early intervention team since my son (now 12 mos) has yet to master a straw. I was told, and the description leads you to believe, that you can squeeze the cup so the water can go up the straw. Nope. Not at all. The cup part is hard plastic and there's no squeezing it and definitely no liquid going up the straw. I've had better luck with a juice box! So basically I have another straw sippy cup to add to my growing collection.

Update July 2014:
I also want to add that this cup is always leaking. There seems to be some scientific way to line up the handles with the cover and "click" it on. It clicks and we tighten it but when it falls to the floor there are always puddles to be cleaned up.

Update August 2014:
I just want to say that I emailed Energizer Personal Care after they responded to my initial comment. I told them that the 6oz cup I purchased was not as described (not squeezable at all) and that some reviews seemed to indicate the 7oz cup was the one I want. I asked if they might send me this cup instead. I got a generic response from the company thanking me for my loyalty and that they would mail me a coupon.... ok, maybe this coupon is for a free cup! But it has been past the time frame and no coupon. I am disappointed that someone would take the time to respond to individual reviews and then when I respond at THEIR prompting there is minimal response. :-(
