I've decided that this is our sippy cup. I like the fact that it's easy to put together, doesn't leak and that you can stash it in pockets, pouches, etc. We've tried many others, including:

Born Free - wasn't accepted (I think it was just too much of a contraption for a 12-mo old)
Nuby - broke after multiple tosses on the floor
Nuk - like it, but the handles attach at the bottom, making it difficult to stash in pockets/pouches. Also, it seems like my daughter sucks in a lot of air with it.
Munchkin - my daughter likes it and its the brand they use at her daycare, but it's hard to center the nipple just right. Also, my daughter loves the fact that she can turn it upside down, squish the nipple on the table, and dump out a puddle of milk. She would give it an A+ for entertainment value, Mommy, not so much.
Tilty - I like the concept but there are no handles, and the nipple isn't the best

We'll stick with Playtex for now!

I just bought this sippy cup from a store here in town, and I wish I had read the Amazon reviews here first -- the more recent reviews, that is. (Please note that the older - and more positive - reviews are for the older version, called the Playtex "Sipster"...which we loved. I noticed some other reviewers posted pictures of the older/Sipster version.) I also wish that I could give this Playtex Training Time Soft Spout Cup LESS than 1 star. We've been using sippy cups in our house for almost 7 years (I have 3 kids and am pregnant with a fourth), so we've tried a LOT of sippy cups. One of my favorites has always been the good ol' Playtex "Sipster." My 2 year old son was using a blue/red Playtex Sipster to drink his milk at meals (I like giving him a cup with handles so that he can pick it up with one hand at meals; plus, he doesn't usually drink more than 6 oz of milk at a time at meals anyway). After he lost his, I started searching for a new one...letting him use one of his big sister's old Sipster cups (a purple one) in the meantime. We've been trying other sippy cups, too, but none have been as good as the Sipster that we've always loved. (By the way, I do like the 9 oz Playtex PlayTime "Spoutless" Cup with its flip-up cap...It doesn't have handles and holds more liquid, so it's great for the diaper bag or outings because the flip-up cap keeps the drink-hole covered nicely - and it's easy for my son to open and close. We use this cup for water and for outings and travel, or any situation that's on-the-go, and it works well. I just like a shorter cup, and preferably with handles, at meals. Shorter cups are less top-heavy, too, so they're less likely to tip over and fall off the table.)

So...

Pros: -
they don't leak unless baby bangs it on something hard, even then only a few drops come out. Even if you turn it upside down, it doesn't leak because of the valve.
-Fairly easy to clean as long as you don't let it sit.
-Nice looking, comes in a variety of colors...some gender neutral
-You can buy extra valves on Amazon for just a few dollars. I've had my cups for about a year and still don't need new valves.
-You can remove the valve completely and use the bottle for an older child.
-Baby sucks it like a straw almost, it doesn't just pour out like other cups.
-Very durable, my daughter throws it around like a football and it's still in good shape.

Cons:
-Because of the way the inside of the lid is shaped (the valve takes some room in the lid) you will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS waste like a half an ounce of liquid. It gets stuck in the lid and baby can't suck it out. So that half an ounce of milk (or whatever baby is drinking) gets wasted. But in the end this is needed so it can truly be leakproof.

-There's no way to measure how many ounces you are filling in the cup, there are no measuring lines which is a little absurd. This should be an easy fix for Playtex. The cup is seven ounces, so minus one ounce that gets wasted, you are left with a six ounce cup (but still, it would be nice to be able to measure).

Conclusion: It's a damn good cup, I've purchased several.

If *I* can't suck liquid out of this sippy cup, how can I expect my daughter to? It's spill proof, sure, but that's because it's also drink proof.

This cup (bought May 2014) leaks SO EASILY. I have mopped up an entire cup's full of water from the floor several times in the past month. Yes, my 6-month-old can get water out easily, but the leaks make this cup absolutely worthless for me. I will throw them away and buy another brand.

I used Playtex sippy cups with my older kids (born 2008 & 2010) faithfully because I liked the design so well. I'm so disappointed the company has changed the design. =(

Hi, S. Saar!
We apologize for the inconvenience. In our directions for use, you will notice that we advise you to twist the lid until you hear or feel a click signaling that it is locked. We have learned from consumers like you that the click can sometimes be heard or felt before the arrow on the lid lines up with the padlock icon on the cup. To ensure a proper seal, we recommend twisting the lid until the arrow is at or past the lock symbol, even if you feel the click before that.

If you try this and still experience leaking from the seal area, please contact us so that we can assist you further at 1-800-222-0453, Monday-Friday, between 8am-6pm EST. Please refer to your Amazon Name when calling.

Less than one star. They've replaced the old Sipster with a newer version. Many of the 5 star reviews here on Amazon seem to be for the old style with is SUPERB!!! BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL SIPSTER STYLE PLEASE, PLAYTEX!

I tried this one out because my little one was getting frustrated and throwing this on the floor. I sucked on the spout as hard as I could, and as an adult could get nothing out. The reason this is horrible is because I had to BITE down on the spout part and then suck on it. I had to use my teeth to bite down and actually quite hard. Even then it was still awkward to try to get the water out. THIS IS HORRIBLE!!! We are still nursing and the last thing I want my little one learning is that he has to bite and then suck to get liquid out.

Also the fact that the handle comes off is very annoying. When I'm trying to get the top back on, I have to jam the handle on the top and it doesn't always stay on, so then I'm trying to line it up while I twist the lid back on and it's too finicky when my baby is crying for a drink. The removable handle is pointless because even when kids get older they like to pick up the cup with either the left or right hand.

We have only a couple of the old Sipsters and they are fantastic. I really wish I could have stocked up, had I know that they would be discontinuing that design. I tried the older style out too in comparison and all I have to do is suck on it slightly and the water comes right out.

BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL STYLE SIPSTER PLEASE!!!

EDITED TO ADD: I have already called 1.800.222.0453 and asked for a call back to discuss this flawed design. There are many mothers here in the Chicago area that are not happy with this new design and would appreciate if you would change it back to the more simplistic original.
