Book Description

Barefoot Books are proud to present the audio book to accompany the highly acclaimed Playtime Rhymes for Little People (1-84148-424-5) and its companion title Mother Goose Remembers (1-84148-072-X hardback and 1-84148-428-8 audio book), all illustrated by Clare Beaton. This collection of forty popular action rhymes includes firm favourites such as 'Tinker, Tailor' and 'The Wheels On The Bus', as well as less familiar ditties such as 'Fishes Swim in Water Clear' and 'My Ship Sailed From China'. Performed by the ever-popular team of Dave Townsend, Nick Hooper, Charles Spicer and Caroline Butler, this is a jaunty, sing a long CD complete with full booklet demonstrating the actions so children can act out the games and sing along with the CD.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In a companion volume to her Mother Goose Remembers, Clare Beaton combines 40 classic nursery rhymes with her sumptuously sewn collage to create Playtime Rhymes for Little People. Easy instructions encourage active participation through finger play and body gestures.

From School Library Journal

reS-Exquisitely detailed, hand-sewn illustrations bring new life to traditional children's rhymes, games, and songs in this fine collection. Yarn, buttons, beads, lace, and a huge variety of textures and fabric designs are combined to create simple, bold shapes that give the pages a three-dimensional effect. Titles are stitched creatively into the illustrations but the rhymes appear in large print, ideal for reading to a group. Directions for the motions appear after each selection. Readers will find favorites, such as "I'm a Little Teapot," "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," and "Incy Wincy Spider"; they will also discover less-familiar verses: "Hanky Panky," "Five Little Peas," and "Onery, Twoery." "Wind the Bobbin Up" is one of several rhymes that can be used as group transitions, beginning with a lively rhythm and ending quietly several lines later with "And put your hands upon your knee." Many rhymes are perfect for bouncing babies on laps, but most can be enthusiastically enjoyed by older preschool and early elementary children. This book is fun from cover to cover, and beautiful to look at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand Daughter loves the rhymes and picture book, June 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My Grand daughter sways back and forth to the music and rhymes, and loves the book. It's sturdy enough to withstand her trying to eat the pages, as that's what the young one's do with everything they can get their hands on.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure!, December 15, 2009
We have a LOT of children's books. My two girls, 1 and 4, are enamored with books. This book, though, is super special. We love that the book includes lots of finger games. They are very fun for kids of many ages (even the preteen cousins like doing them with the girls). Not all are finger games. Some are bouncing knee type songs. Others are counting songs. Some of the songs, like Hanky Panky and Round and Round the Garden, have become staples to make the baby laugh in our household, even without the book or CD. Also, we've discovered that the CD is great on its own just to put in the CD player. It is beautifully sung by a mom and her daughters and is not the slightest bit annoying. It's just mellow yet also fun - the perfect combo! As others have noted, the book itself is gorgeous too. I highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as Mother Goose by this same illustrator, March 6, 2008
I am hooked on Clare Beaton -- her illustrations are dynamite! But this book is not as much fun as the Mother Goose she did -- I was hoping for fewer finger-play rhymes (like itsy-bitsy spider) and more London Bridge-type rhymes. Just childhood sing-song would have pleased me better. However, the illustrations are out of this world. You really can't go wrong with this book. And if finger play is your thing, then this is your book for sure.
