Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSAA photographic, step-by-step guide to 29 traditional and contemporary fingerplays and rhymes for adults to share with babies and toddlers. With additional charming watercolor-and-ink illustrations accompanying these short verses, this collection will delight and entertain preschoolers as they develop essential listening and coordination skills. A clear and lively introduction to such favorites as "Itsy-bitsy Spider" and "Cobbler, Cobbler," and a perfect way to start children on the road to rhythm and rhyme.ASelene S. From Booklist

Ages 6 months^-3 yrs. This picture book offers 22 action rhymes for babies and young children. Along with old favorites such as "Round and Round the Garden" or "Pat-a-Cake," offerings include the more modern "Two Little Men in a Flying Saucer" and the rather British-sounding "Pudding on the Plate." Many are bounce-and-tickle rhymes for infants and toddlers, and others are adaptable for school and public library story hour groups. Illustrations include charming ink drawings with watercolor washes as well as panels of small photos showing an action for each line of a rhyme. With its good selection, practical design, and cheerful illustrations, this anthology of play rhymes will appeal to parents as well as children. Carolyn Phelan

This review is from: Playtime Rhymes (Hardcover)
We found this book at the library, and I had to buy it. The used copy was in great condition. There are 22 pleasant rhymes, illustrated, with easy to follow instructions for the accompanying movements. The photos of children and parents recreating the movements are very helpful, and the photos were the reason that got us so excited about this book. We never felt lost or confused about the movements.

Our child pulls this book very frequently, sits down on my thigh and we sing the rhymes. Even though some of the rhymes are available on YouTube, it is good to be free the screen and play on the floor.
