Book Description

1 and upK and up

Here is Pleasant Fieldmouse, as enchanting a small creature as one might hope to meet. And here, too, are his friends, Mrs. Worry-Wind Hedgehog, Haunted Beaver, Graybeard Tortoise, and many, many others.

Their happy adventures in the forest, whether preparing for a picnic that never takes place, growing a very special and beautiful talking rose, or performing brave and heroic deeds of courage, will enchant the youngest listener.

And who could ask for more than to have these lovable forest folk portrayed by Maurice Sendak, whose pictures are known and loved by thousands of children and adults.

This book is a Caldecott Award winner and though it was published in '64, has a timeless quality that will work for children ages 3-6. A classic to treasure!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Find!, January 20, 2010
By
Nancy (West Coast FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pleasant Fieldmouse (Hardcover)
Reading this was like meeting up with an old friend--just so comfortable. Love the illustrations (by Sendak). Got this book used a few years back. My daughters were too small at the time, so we've only just started reading it. Story lines bear a resemblance to tales of Pooh in their quiet and amusing approach, but easier, more down-to-earth language for young children. This has short (not too short) chapters, each of which are stories on their own, connected so that you follow the characters. I'm enjoying this so much with my kids, I'm going to check out the other Pleasant Fieldmouse books too. Stories are not for the pre-school set (as the book summary here notes), closer to ages 6 to 7 as a minimum, perhaps up to age 11. Enjoy.
