This pop-up version of the 1970s Sesame Street classic, "The Monster At The End Of This Book" captures the same sense of fun and goofy audience participation as the original. The pop-up gags are enjoyable -- when Grover tries to tie the book shut, or nail the pages shut in order to prevent readers from getting to the end, we now get to see him pulling on the rope and hammering the nails. When his brick wall collapses, a 3-D Grover now sits among the wreckage. In opting for the participatory style of the pop-up medium, this new version mildly undercuts the book's original attraction, the fun that kids can have when adults ask them, "Do you think we should turn the page this time? maybe we should stop reading the book..." They can still howl nooooooo! turn the page! but with the thrill of a pop-up behind each page, it's harder to make the case that maybe we should give poor Grover a break, just this once. Of course none of this prevented my kid from insisting we read this one over and over -- she'd read both the original version and the shorter board-book edition before, but she really went ga-ga over this one. So, it's been road-tested in our household, and passed with flying colors. A fun book. Poor Grover.

When I read the description for this book, it gave me the impression it was a new chapter so to speak in the Monster at the End of the Book. It was nothing of the sort. All this book is, is the original story with some pop-ups and pull tabs. My Grandaughter, who is two years old, has had the original since she was born. It is her favorite story!! Once she saw the book, she too was a bit disappointed. The interaction ment nothing to her! However, she thought she had two of the same favorite stories so I couldn't take it away from her to return it or I would have.

This is my absolute favorite kids book. I learned to read from this book as a small child. Basically, I made everyone read this book to me so many times that I essentially memorized what every word was/looked like. When I had kids of mine own, I found a copy at Goodwill and I was so excited! I figured that they weren't publishing it anymore, so I was very happy. I read it to my oldest many times. I went to a local bookstore looking for a present for another child and found it on the bookshelf. Perfect! I truly think that every kid should have this book read to them. Especially if you can imitate Grover's voice as you read it.

At bedtime my sons would beg me to read "the monster at the end of this book" to them. When my oldest (now 26) was home with my 3 y/o grandson I searched their closet over but could not find their copy. In the week they were here I ordered and received the book from Amazon, and the begging started from my grandson. By the time they had to go home he was reciting it as I read just like his Dad and Uncle did. Thank you Amazon for making more memories. PM in KY

I know I am REALLY dating myself, but this book was originally published the year I was born. I remember reading it in the school library a few times in elementary and I NEVER forgot it.
I now have 2 four year old daughters who ADORE this book! It has colorful pics in it, and it's repetitive phrases have them basically verbally reading it along with me. It is short and to the point, easy to read, and very enjoyable!

This book is an absolute classic! I remember reading this when I was younger, and loving the story, and now I read it to my son. The images are cute, and the very short story is fun. In a day and age when books try to convey messages and push points of views, it's nice to have a book that is just enjoyable because of what it is. A cute fun story that children will remember for the rest of their lives.

I bought this book for my grandson because my two grown kids both had loved it. The only thing I recommend (my opinion only) is to think about getting the book without the popups (The Monster at the End of this Book, is the same one). Since this is his favorite book, he always wants it with him. It took him no time for him to destroy it. I had to rely on my kids' old one with the dog-chewed corners.

This is one of the best books written based on Sesame St.
It is funny and it has a cute twist of an ending that my kids got a kick out of...so much so that now as youbg adults they have bOTH bought this book for
their own children....I think that says it all...they definitely enjoyed it !

It also teaches do not be afraid of 'monsters'and things that go bump in the night.
