Product Description

Enrolling in a typical sociology class appears to be the most efficient way to destroy brain cells. While some people argue binge drinking is worse, one must consider that hangovers are temporary and significantly less expensive. Leftist indoctrination, on the other hand, leads to permanent brain damage along with incredible financial debt. Please enroll responsibly.

This book is your helmet for higher education. Like a helmet, it cannot guarantee to protect you, but it may mitigate the trauma. It is written for students, parents and those who want to guard their children from the potential damage college can inflict on young minds.

Students enroll in college assuming they’ll graduate smarter. What they don’t realize is that many professors spout their leftist ideology in the classroom without offering opposing opinions. Students fear their grades will suffer if they question what they are taught.

Lee Doren sets out to help students conflicted with this dilemma. He also provides advice for families wondering if college is still worth the price. He writes from personal experience detailing his own political transformation from a liberal “community organizer” to an advocate for limited government.

Lee Doren of YouTube's HowTheWorldWorks writes an entertaining and intelligent account of his own journey from being a leftist "community organizer" to a libertarian media pundit. He talks about his own experiences in college and offers advice for getting through academia as a student.

For me, the most impressive part of the book was when he talks about how to deal with biased professors -- he explains how to stand up for your own ideas in a respectful way that neither sacrifices your integrity nor creates a dangerous enemy out of the professor. He also says that if a professor requires you to write an essay defending an idea you think is wrong, it'd be a good idea to do so as a useful debate-style exercise, rather than potentially martyr yourself. It's a quick read, and no one will miss the 99 cents it cost them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet, August 31, 2011
This review is from: Please Enroll Responsibly: Avoiding Indoctrination at College (Kindle Edition)
Subscribers of Lee's youtube channel or anyone else familiar with his work know his style and his ebook certainly does not disappoint. The book provides a very concise, fact supported, guide to navigating your way through higher education. Obviously the book is written from a certain perspective (i.e. that you should avoid leftist indoctrination) but any bias in the tone of the arguments is negated by the factual support cited throughout. If you are thinking about going to college, in college, or just interested in the topic I cannot think of a better way to spend $.99 and an hour of your time. Finally if you are not convinced of the value of this ebook, the list of works he recommends at the end of the book is also an excellent addition.

While initially expecting a heavier read, I enjoyed the book greatly. The author is very straight forward, cites sources like crazy, and uses entertaining personal experiences throughout.

My hope is that this book will reach it's target audience, helping individuals make better decisions when choosing their educational paths. Again, this is not a heavy read, but it gets you started. In fact, this book has me reflecting back on my own education, wondering how much of the politicizing I may have missed or ignored along the way.
