5.0 out of 5 stars teaches kids how to tell
I'm really impressed with this book. It's told in the first person by a little girl who is sexually abused by her uncle in terms that a young child can understand. It discusses how she is supported by her family, and how it is seeing a psychologist. It really does a good job of destigmatizing sexual abuse. It also encourages children who have been (or are being) abused to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Please Tell
This book is really intense and I did not share it with the person it was intended for. The child who tells the story tells about how her parents had the uncle arrested for what he did to her. I agree with the Uncle getting arrested and thats a necessary consequence. Some Children who have been abused are very angry and want the abuser to be stopped in this way, usually...

I'm really impressed with this book. It's told in the first person by a little girl who is sexually abused by her uncle in terms that a young child can understand. It discusses how she is supported by her family, and how it is seeing a psychologist. It really does a good job of destigmatizing sexual abuse. It also encourages children who have been (or are being) abused to keep telling trusted adults about it until someone helps them. In the back it also provides a fairly long list of people who it is okay to tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best help to help, July 7, 2007

Please Tell is one of the most amazing help I ever had with my clients. My youth get a comfort when they read this story. They don't feel alone any more, because another girl like them had the same bad experience. Then, they feel confident to talk about their own abuse.
It's the best help for helpers.

I am a counselor and recently adopted a little girl who suffered unspeakable abuse. This book assisted her in being able to talk with her therapist about her abuse so that her healing could begin. The fact that the book is written by a child allows children to relate on their level. I recommend this book for therapists working with children of abuse and families.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful, March 4, 2008
This review is from: Please Tell: A Child's Story About Sexual Abuse (Early Steps) (Paperback)
As a child therapist, this book is very useful when working with most child victims of sexual abuse. It is a way to help them open up about their own feelings by relating their story to Jessie's story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Except in some cases..., April 7, 2011

I'm a therapist and have many adult clients who were sexually abused during childhood by a man. In three cases I have worked with, the girl told their mother what was happening and was not given any support or help. Mother preferred to keep it hushed up and wanted to protect the sexual predator. It's awful, of course, but it does happen this way. I wish there was more help for children who are not believed by the first person they tell. There needs to be encouragement to go on and tell someone else outside the family or church. We like to think that when a child tells someone, there is a happily ever after ending. But it's not always the case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Educate Your Children, December 15, 2010

This is an excellent book to use in educating and empowering our children. Child sex abuse is a rampant society problem and it happens so so so so much more than we know or think. One of the most important things is to make sure children are aware that people who they know are way more likely to perpetrate against them than someone who is a complete stranger. This book succeeds in getting this message across. It also confirms for the child that he/she is NOT to blame, another very important thing.

Good book to read with your children when they have been abused. It helped our son be able to share with his feelings with me. I highly recommend reading this book to your children.

This book is really intense and I did not share it with the person it was intended for. The child who tells the story tells about how her parents had the uncle arrested for what he did to her. I agree with the Uncle getting arrested and thats a necessary consequence. Some Children who have been abused are very angry and want the abuser to be stopped in this way, usually children that have been abused by an adult, or an extended family member/friend. Other Children are afraid for the abuser and won't tell if they know the abuser will go to jail. The person this book was intended for is the second of the two and I believe this book will only cause them to not talk even more. The person this book was intended for was abused by another Child. I didn't feel that this book was what they needed

4.0 out of 5 stars I have no basis for comparison, April 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Please Tell: A Child's Story About Sexual Abuse (Early Steps) (Paperback)
My baby girl listened, but seemed distant. I pray that the signs I've seen and guessed them to be signs of abuse are wrong. I bought the books to read to my little girl so she will know that she can tell her Dad if Mommy's family is hurting her. I pray not, but will not take any chances, as my Ex's family abused her until she was taken and put into a foster home, and then a girls Home at age 13. She's mentally twisted. I was wrong to think I could help her. It all fell apart when we moved to Kansas to be close to her (what she claimed were the GOOD part of her family), They are NOT.
