5.0 out of 5 stars one of a kind, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Pleasure Pudding (Audio CD)
For anyone who hasn't seen Sweet Pie, don't miss him, the experience is unforgettable ! The only time I was able to see the one man show was in 1972 at a long ago demolished beer joint called the "Barn" near UConn. He was hilarious and I rushed out to buy his album if for no other reason than for his big hit, "Vermont, A Lazy Man's Colorado".
The performance is a bubbling mixture of whore house piano playing, Randy Newman dry whit, the blues and a Frank Zappa sense of fun.
He often steps back and references his difficulties in making it in the record "Biz" hassling with the suits while crafting the "hook" and other devices necessary to the popular song. A very engaging guy.
It is big fun just seeing his name in lights again. It would be nice for the present college generation of whiners to discover him. Maybe they would snap out of it.
Sweet Pie is one of a kind, and this time one of a kind is a great hand.
Have some Pie !
