I'm a compulsive buyer of books on parrots, always looking for that gem of advise that will result in the perfect relationship with my birds. However, finding a good book on parrots is akin to hitting the lottery. This book towers above all the others I've read. Not only does it tell what the bird owner is anxious to hear, but the information is written in well phrased, interesting, and amusing fashion. Buy this book! Read this book!

This book, the third by Bonnie Doane, is a must for the new parrot owner or for those who have had a parrot for many years. I found this book to be an excellent guide when I first got my new parrot. I made sure I researched every book I could when I first acquired my two-week old baby parrot, and this book was one of my favorites. I found it very helpful in the training & learning process of handling my parrot as it matured and got older. There are chapters on obedience skills and training techniques for adult parrots, as well as how to work with baby birds, speech training, and trick training. There are 12 chapters filled with helpful advice that you should definitely be aware of.I highly recommend this book. You should check out her other two books, "My Parrot, My Friend" and "The Parrot in Health and Illness." These are excellent books for your bird-related library in my opinion.

Another wonderful book from Bonnie. I have found this book and My Parrot My Friend to be very helpful in developing a relationship with my african grey. I am a fairly seasoned bird owner and I read everything I can related to parrot behavior. This book is a must read for keeping your parrot in good graces with the entire family.

I am very new to world of birds. I took on a completely naked, abused umbrella cockatoo with no idea of what to do or expect. All I knew was he could not stay where he was. This book was a God-send! I understand some of his behavior much better now and I know that I will refer to this book many, many, many times throught the years. (Now, if they would just come up with a book to help me fully understand my six rescue dogs!) I now have two other birds that I started with as healthy babies and I don't know what I would do without this book. Beware, though! Reading the chapter on development and weaning made me want to handraise another one, and it just might give you the same urge!!! Thanks you Ms. Doane for a tremendous help to all of us and our avian friends.

This is a wonderful book for a new bird owner as well as an experienced owner. It is a must have for your library. It is more general then My Parrot, My Friend but is more user friendly and has alot of added information. It has useful and up to date information on training and care. This is a book every breeder should give to anyone who buys a bird.

This book is very well written and can easily be used as a reference guide as well. This book lacks only in one aspect (colour photos) of actual birds since I love to look at pictures almost as much as reading the information. I would recomend this book to anyone thinking of getting a bird or someone who already has one and is acting up a bit. I haven't adopted a bird as of yet but it's only days away. (I can't wait to get the Umbrella Cockatoo home). A really great site (except it is a little negative but very informative to future Parrot owners is http://members.citynet.net/skydiver/parrots/parrots.htm. Check it out . I looked online for two months to make sure that I was picking the right bird for our family and everything you need to know is right there or there's links to it.

I have read many books and I haven't really found a whole lot of them that good. But this book is precise, clear, detailed, full of practical inforamtion you're actually going to use, AND you can have a good laugh here and there. I'd recommend this book to both an experienced bird handler and a young pet owner. I just can't say enough good things about this book!!! GET IT!!!

I recently purchased an African Grey and this book helped me immensely. I continue to use it daily. The breeder I bought from was no help to me, just wanted to sell a bird, so the information in this book literally saved a life!!!

This is the second book I have read by this author, I also have My Parrot, My Friend. I like both of them but this one is definitely more fun to read. I feel that this author is very knowledgable and really knows what she is talking about. As a first time parrot owner I needed a book that was down to earth enough for a non expert to understand. Also, I absolutely love the cartoon illustrations.
