4.0 out of 5 stars Flavorful, metropolitan electronic dance music, July 1, 2004

One word to describe Seksu Roba: Flavorful.

It's electronic music, but it's not house, trance, techno, or electro. It's in a class of its own, which is a good thing. Perhaps it would be best described as electro-tinged house.

The melodies are great to nod your head to, but it's got the beats to shake your bons bons if you'd like. The music contained herein is great for a drive out into town on a weekend night, preferrably somewhere like Santa Monica.

5.0 out of 5 stars more than a theremin, December 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Pleasure Vibrations (Audio CD)
So the theremin is the coolest thing in the world. Pre dating the synthesizer, this thing looks like a box with two antennaes. Mostly its played by old guys who look like they should be performing magic tricks with it, rather than playing the instrument. But the genius of the theremin is in how its played...and its played without touching anything. One antennae controls pitch, the other volume, and by moving one's hands about a mini orchestra of music is created. Seksu Roba's Sukho Lee is a master thereminist and they are one of the few indie acts who employs the instruments (i am the world trade center also uses it, but they don't have the control of the theremin the way Lee does). But alas, Seksu Roba is more than a one trick pony. Lee (also the group's producer) is joined on stage and on record by the lovely Lun*na Menoh. She really shines on songs like "LA Freeway" and the title track of "Pleasure Vibrations." Apparently she is a performance artist/fashion designer, but her vocals are melodically enticing and a beautiful instrument on their own. The upbeat dance tracks are perfect for a pre party, the party itself, the after party and even the hotel lobby. This is one of my favorite releases in the past few years, it gets constant replay. I would recommend this to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun album, February 24, 2004
By
This review is from: Pleasure Vibrations (Audio CD)
I found this album at a listening post at my local cd shop and had to get it because it was so fun and refreshingly different. I would describe it as funky disco techno lounge. There is some funky bass, it can sometimes have a lounge feel, sometimes a dancey disco feel, but the songs all have a high bpm, which I like. There is a lot of uncommon instrumentation on this album too. And it's very well produced. The singer is great, and has a very sexy voice. Also, you'll find that the album has quite a range of songs, all quite different. If I had to predict the radio hit, I'd say it was number 5, Fantasy. There are many other great tracks. I also love 8 and 6. Check this album out with an open mind. You're sure to like it if you like the unique.
