What A Life!, October 3, 2010
This review is from: Pleasure and pain. (Paperback)
Christine Amphlett is an amazing woman who's lived a fascinating life. Pleasure And Pain describes that life in intimate detail, before during and after the Divinyls. Absolutely essential reading if you're a fan, an enjoyable read even if you're not.
This is autobiography at its best. Very well written and hard to put down. A very personal account of a sometimes thrilling, sometimes heart breaking life. While Chrissy gives us her memories and personal views and feelings about events, she allows friends, family, band mates and fellow participants in mayhem to share their memories as well, even where they differ from hers, giving us a far more detailed and balanced perspective.
As a fan of Divinyls since 1983, I'd hungered for something like this. Not exactly an abundance of info out there on this band, especially for American fans. This book fills that void and fills it well. The perfect companion to those wonderful albums, a real treasure trove of info. Band stories and anecdotes from the tours, recording studios and everywhere in between. The sex, drugs and rock'n'roll, the good, the bad and the ugly, it's all here.
This volume's a bit pricey here in the states (when you can even find it), but well worth it if you love Divinyls. One of those books you'll want to read again from time to time. Get it while you can. What A Life!

What an amazing woman, December 23, 2009
This review is from: Pleasure and pain. (Paperback)
Chrissy Amphlett has given us an insider's view into Australian Rock Music of the 1980's and 1990's. This is a no holds barred account of her life - growing up in Geelong then embarking on an amazing journey into Australian Rock. Chrissy should be congratulated for providing us with a very personal account of her life. She is not afraid to hold back when describing her ups and downs during the days of the Divinyls and the people involved in the process. She is very frank when talking about herself and her many addictions, as well as her recent battle with MS. This is a story of a woman who not only lived it but survived it. I found this book to be a real page turner. Chrissy is simply an amazing woman. The updated and revised version, which has just been released, tells the reader about her current struggle with MS and her endeavours to get on with her life and career. All I can say is thank you to Chrissy for giving us a wonderful account of her life and of a group that was very much part of the rock scene in the 80's and 90's.

Someone should review the REVIEWERS of this book, March 8, 2010
This review is from: Pleasure and pain. (Paperback)
I love the guy who called this book "poorly researched". Really? Um, it's a FIRST PERSON'S SUBJECTIVE ACCOUNT OF HER OWN EXPERIENCE. So I'd say it was thoroughly and perfectly researched. The problem with everyone having the access to write a review or comment on a book is that everyone thinks they SHOULD. Just because you have personal issues and a colossal shadow does not mean you should be allowed to project it all over the Christina Amphlett. You should be called out. Get a LIFE. So tired of reading comments from transparent, mean-spirited people like you. And for the record, I do not know Christina or have any personal connection to her or the band. I'm simply a fan. In the future, do us all a favor and keep it to yourself. Get a therapist.
