One of the best Presents writers, April 12, 2011
This review is from: Pleasured by the Secret Millionaire (Harlequin Presents) (Kindle Edition)
4.5 stars
I'm not a big fan of the Harlequin Presents line, as most of the books I have read feature painfully out of date characters who speak and act like they're living a century ago.
So Pleasured by the Secret Millionaire took me completely by surprise. Contemporary, fun, emotional, with believable characters, this was a big step up from any other book I've read in this line. Especially good was that the Australian and New Zealand characters actually felt realistic - there aren't that many Australian characters in romance who are written as more than an American with a different accent. It helps the author is from Down Under; she really captured the atmosphere of the Southern Hemisphere.
To be honest, this is more like a Blaze book than Presents, and would perhaps have been better published as one. The fact the hero was a millionaire wasn't really necessary to the story - something that seems to be the main point of most other books published in this category.
The premise for the book was great. New Zealander Sienna has secrets she's determined to keep, and wants nothing more than a fling with a hot Australian guy before she takes off on her world adventure. There's a reason she won't let Rhys see all of her body.
For Rhys's part, he's a very rich, very well-known doctor, but Sienna doesn't know this at the beginning. I'm not a fan generally of characters lying about their identity, but there're times it really works well for the story. This was one of those times.
Natalie Anderson proves it is possible to write a romance with a rich, impossibly gorgeous hero and also make him very likeable and very relevant. I could believe Rhys existed (unlike all those sheikhs and billionaire Greek princes!). It was such a wonderful balance of the fantasy and real life.
I did have a few complaints, the rushed HEA being one of them, but what's a writer to do with Harlequin/Mills and Boons' strict word limits?
I also wasn't thrilled with the unprotected sex at the beginning because the belated panic about not using a condom was unbelievable. The guy's a doctor, and he even thinks about condoms at the start, and then he just forgets about it until an hour afterwards? Nope, not buying it. I can see the author used it as an excuse for Rhys to be angry at Sienna (those dopey Presents heroes, always so angry at their women!), but it didn't ring true.
Oh, and there's no way in the world an Australian would call an Esky a `chilly bin'! I had no idea what the author was talking about at first!
If more books in the Presents line were written this way I'd read them. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more from Natalie Anderson.

Worth My Sunday Afternoon....., June 8, 2009
I have to say that this book will go in my "adult subject matter" category because it was the most perfect/imperfect story I have read in awhile the main characters Sienna and Rhys (pronounce Reese) are now one of the few of my favorite fictional characters the author made you like them not pity them despite the hardships that life had dealt them both.
Sienna was a pretty mid 20 something New Zealander who has come to Australia on holiday to escape the stresses of home and life in general, while vacationing she wonders into a bar where she is drawn to the sound of a band playing, mainly it's the sound of the drums that spikes her interest; enters Rhys Maitland who is described as "sex on legs" who is for all appearances seems to be a hottie and a roadie of the band that's playing, there are instant sparks of attraction between these two. I love the fact that they pretty much cut to the chase and admit that there is an attraction without all the useless chatter and come- hether looks.
Although their attraction for each other seems basic boy meets girl...boy lust after girl and vice versa, there are hidden depths to both of them. Rhys is also on a "vacation from his life" just like Sienna wanting to get away from the stress and pressure of just being "who he is". They both consciously decide to leave certain pertinent facts about themselves and their lives out of any part of the time they spend together, just wanting to enjoy each other for the moment.
What's stated out as a holiday fling quickly turns into much more with Sienna and Rhys dropping their guard allowing feeling to develop for one another that they both try and fight because they feel like their not right for one another for all kinds of reasons, when the reality is they are more right for one another than either of them cares to realize.
I gave this book full stars because it was a well written story and the characters felt relatable, the story flowed and their wasn't any lagging or unnecessary or useless dialogue between them, it was all significant and built on itself to give you a full picture of who they both were and who they could be together given half a chance, I was rooting for them both to over come their obstacles and find happiness.
I loved how the author left the ending, its not typical harlequin, and for avid and long time readers like myself you'll see what I mean, this book is definitely a keeper. Happy Reading.

Lust, passion, secrets, May 30, 2009
Natalie Anderson has written the most amazing love story which literally sizzles off the pages with extreme passion, major secrets, an incredible journey and a most romantic and teary ending one a romance reader will definitely want to read.
While reading this I went through many thought processes because Sienna the lovely young woman made me wonder what I would do in her situation. The reader is given her background that she was coddled by her family due to a heart problem and now as an adult she has left home to begin a lifetime journey with her journal and a wish list. Not knowing her fate, she has a list of things she wants to accomplish and when she arrives in Australia and meets the handsome Rhys she believes to be a band promoter, one of the items at the top of her list is to experience a night of passion like no other and you won't believe how she accomplishes her task. In fact, next time I see a storage closet, I'm going to blush!
As for Rhys, being a well known doctor, a man of wealth from a well known Australian family and one with past experiences with women who only wanted him for fame and fortune, he's decided to take a short and needed vacation using another identity. What he doesn't count on is meeting Sienna and how much he's attracted to her and wants to continue the vacation romance but discretely.
When Sienna's medical issues are revealed to Rhys, you will see such a wonderful softness in him, however you'll be angry when you realize he's invaded her space and read her journal. The lesson he learns is that she matters and he wants to be more than a vacation romp and in the end how he makes everything right. But it's how they both get there is what's important.
Sienna's journey is just that, she needs to experience, life without constraints, live, laugh, love, and take chances. After spending time with Rhys she realizes that leaving him is going to be painful but she must leave him and follow her dreams. In the end and yes your tears will fall especially when they both realize how very special and unique their relationship has become and they must forgive each other.
Rhys and Sienna's energy, strength and passion are beautiful but Rhys realization that he needed to forgive himself, learn to trust and believe were wonderful to read. The "new list" they agreed to create together to keep up with the zest for life was extremely sweet and emotional.
