Gunt's Magic Touches the Tra la la of the Young and Old,
By Kris "Gunther's Biggest Fan" (Santiago, Chile) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pleasureman (Dig) (Audio CD)
It's a no no, but you like it. Gunther's senusous yet demure interpretation of the Europ pop genre places this CD on everyone's must-have list. As a classical musician, I appreciate Gunther's contemplative and balanced sensibilities. This album sparkles and shines with talent, innovation comparable only to David Hasselhoff's latest b-side. You will not regret purchasing this future classic. Makes a great gift!
I had the good fortune of meeting the Gunt in Christmas 2005. I was tired of Bing Crosby and his tame interpretation of "White Christmas." Deep in the night, I was looking for some Gunther. My salivating lust for the Swedish pop idol compelled me to fly from Santiago Chile to Stockholm in the hopes of encountering the legend himself. Whilst sipping on Manhattans at the Red Herring, my wishes were fulfilled. First, I saw the mullet. Then, I saw his round, firm bottom, which I had worshipped countless times on the internet. Then, I saw the moustache and my heart stopped. He looked me over and whispered in a voice dripping with testosterone: "I'm looking for some fun." Now, whenever a bell rings at Christmas time (ding dong) I think of that magical night at the Red Herring and how Gunther touched my tra-la-la.

So bad, it's awesome.,

This is like Aqua's semi-classic album Aquarium: it's such a terrible album, it turns out to be an awesome album. Whereas Aquarium was awesome because of its infectious tunes and bad lyrics, Pleasureman is awesome because of its infectious tunes and atrocious lyrics. The music you'll find when you pick up this album is so ridiculously catchy, it's not funny.
Although Ding Dong Song is the most well-known track (anyone who regularly visits YTMND knows that), the other tracks on the album are just as awesome, particularly the title track. The title track is a ridiculously infectious toe-tapping, brain-bursting, orgasm-inducing techno track that wins at life. (cue "Price is Right" music) There's not really much left for me to say, other than that deliciously twisted humor site I-Mockery has posted a review of it, as part of their "Albums That Sucked!" page. That review definitely does this album justice, and they even allow you to listen to a few tracks. [...]

Its a no-no.,

Gunther is the ultimate man's man. I've been watching his internet videos for years just hoping he'd eventually release his album in America and finally it has arrived. I listened to it for the first time yesterday and it's brilliant. Don't get me wrong; it's absolutely terrible. But its one of the few times where something is so bad it's brilliant. Every song has a catchy beat that begs of a Roxbury solute. It's a lot catchier than anything I have heard on the pop channels for years. "I'm your man," is particularly great. It makes for a great accomplice to Halo matches. If you're a fan of the Gunt you have got to have it. After all, it's a no-no, and you like it.

Catchy and uplifting in the extreme - A fine piece of work!!,
This review is from: Pleasureman (Dig) (Audio CD)
I first heard of Gunther from his video Ding Dong Song, and dismissed him as a silly excuse for music. But after repeated views (it IS a good video), I began some serious toe-tapping and decided to check out his other stuff. What I discovered was a gold mine.
ANYONE who barely liked the Europop of Aqua's Aquarium will fall in love with Gunther. His music is top-tier danceable techno and extremely easy on the ears...his songs Pleasureman and Naughty Boy, among several others, all over 40 play counts on my IPOD. His music is funny as hell (think Tenacious D with a sexy swedish purr) as well as the best Europop you're ever going to get. Check out his videos on youtube then buy this!!!

Flawless,
This review is from: Pleasureman (Dig) (Audio CD)
I listened to Ding Dong Song on a Eurodance Internet station, and it is pretty rare a song actually gets my attention that I want to get the album.
I was completely taken away by the quality of the songs on this CD--every track was high-energy, infectious, and completely irreverent. This music resembles E-Rotic in the typical structure of a rap encompassed by choruses and themes. This guy totally takes the cake for being the most wacky and nonsensical in terms of lyrical content. I loved every minute of it. I usually listen to this CD 2-3 times per week, and it is the perfect mix for drinking, smoking, or video gaming. Give it a try-this one is really different from mainstream Eurodance.

Gunther is the best example of this style of eruo pop. Every song is a masterpiece that will up lift form even the worst mood. This album is about four things Champagne, Glamour, Sex, and Respect.

Silly, fun, and doesn't take itself too seriously,
By
This review is from: Pleasureman (Dig) (Audio CD)
Gunther breaks all the rules of good taste and somehow arrives at something that is fun, catchy, and refreshingly frivolous. It's sometimes difficult to tell if Gunther is for real. Common sense would have us believe there's no way he could take himself seriously, but perhaps that is why his 'character' works so well - he never once acknowledges how silly his act is. If he, in a manner of speaking, 'winked to the camera' periodically, the whole act would seem forced and insipid.
This doesn't mean that every song is a gem. "Teeny Weeny String Bikini" is the exact same song as "Tutti Frutti Summer Love" - only the words are changed. Tracks 5 through 10 are basically throw-away numbers made to fill out the album. They're listenable, but nothing special and fundamentally derivative. Tracks 1 through 4 however are almost perfect. They combine all the stereotypical elements of cheesy dance music without apologies and on top of that, they're pretty hilarious. The "Ding Dong Song" maybe to completely silly, but that doesn't change the fact that it's expertly crafted and sonically rewarding. It may not be art, but it's not stupid either. Nobody does hack work and arrives at this. A producer can make bad albums that are fun, or bad albums that are just bad. Pleasureman is solidly of the former. One other thing is worth noting. My version of "Pleasureman" includes "Tutti Frutti Summer Love" as track four in place of "Teeny Weeny String Bikini", which is later on the album. I'm not sure why it wasn't included in every version, as it is one of Gunther's best. If your CD doesn't include it, be sure to watch the music video, which is widely available on YouTube. If you like MP3s, you could probably buy the first four tracks and be set for life. If not, the CD is worth its price if you enjoy the sort of kitsch value that Gunther provides. It may be a guilty pleasure, but the key word is "pleasure" and after all, Gunther IS your Pleasureman as he informs us in the song of the same name.

A Not-So-Guilty Pleasure,
By
This review is from: Pleasureman (Dig) (Audio CD)
This is a terrific CD - catchy, uplifting, and irresistibly danceable. It is entirely too bad that many dismiss Gunther's music because of its facetious and suggestive theme. Many songs can be found on Gunther's official site and elsewhere online, but I did not hear my favorites until I got this CD.
