"DON'T TALK" JUST LISTEN TO ME!,
By NICOLE FIELDS (WILMINGTON, DE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pleasures U Like (Audio CD)
I REALLY UNDERSTAND WHY MOST ARTIST DON'T PUT AN ALBUM OUT EVERY 2 YEARS, CAUSE IT TAKES TIME TO BRING IT TO THE PUBLIC IN A WAY THAT LEAVES 'EM SPEECHLESS. I'M REVIEWIN THIS CD AS I'M WRITING, AND THIS IS SOOOO LIVE. HE COLLABORATED WITH SO MANY PEOPLE AND IT CAME OF LIKE "WOAH" FEEL ME? IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR "COOL RELAX" 2, WELL YOU WON'T FIND IT HERE, AND THAT'S A GOOD THING, CAUSE HE'S IN A DIFFERENT FRAME OF CREATION WITH THIS AND IT'S HITTIN LIKE THAT. I'M SO HAPPY WITH THIS CD. HE'S GOT THE SMOOTH SONGS LIKE "ALL I WANT"-"DON'T TALK"-"FINER THINGS"- AND "PLEASURES YOU LIKE" WHICH GOES DOWN LIKE STRAWBERRIES AND CHAMPAIGNE. THEN HE FLIPS THE SCRIPT WITH SOME REAL INTIMATE SONGS LIKE; "BOY IS NOT A MAN"- AND "LONELY GIRL". THIS DOESN'T SCRATCH ALL THE SONGS THAT FLOW SO EASILY. I LIKE IT AND SO WILL YOU. HE DIDN'T DISSAPPOINT. HIS VOICE IS A REAL SONG IN A SONG AND I ONLY WISH HE WOULD SEE THIS REVIEW, CAUSE I WANT TO TELL HIM AND HIS MANAGEMENT THAT WHATEVER THEY'RE DOIN TO NOT CHANGE, CAUSE IT'S WORKIN. I KNOW I'LL SEE HIM IN THE NEAR FUTURE TALKIN ABOUT HOW THIS ALBUM WENT DOUBLE PLATNIUM(EXCUSE THE SPELLING IF IT'S WRONG). THANK YOU JON FOR NOT FORGETTING ABOUT YOUR FANS AND BRINGIN IT LIKE YOU KNOW WE WANT IT. PEACE-N-LOVE

A Piece of Art,

What can i really say about this album. I could say its tight, I could say its bomb, i could say its off the hook, but those words don't due this CD its justice. This piece of art, is beautiful... by far his best. He's got slow jams, relaxing ballads, upbeat cuts, and tracks to just listen to while chillin' with you homies. Some of my favorite tracks are Finer Things w/ Nas, Sof'n Sweet, Overjoyed w/ Faith Evans, Boy is not a man, Cocoa Brown, All I want is You w/ Cuban Link, Layaway w/ AZ ( I love the latin sound it has), Now That I 'm with you.... I could go on forever. What I appreciate about the album the most is that its such high quality... the vocals, lyrics, beats, collaborations, etc... Its been a long time, but it was worth the wait, so everyone go buy this album "Pleasures U Like" cuz everyone should have something this beautiful to listen to.

Dude snapped for REAL!,

First off, if you love TRUE music, BUY THIS ALBUM (buy one for the ride, one for the house!) I give Jon B. all the love. Don't sleep, dude has caught and will continue to catch hell for doing OUR music. He is an absolute brilliant writer, arranger, composer, producer, and musician. He FEELS SOUL MUSIC and it shows in his music. I have been a fan since BONAFIDE, and personally, this album is the coldest one (which is saying a LOT because Bonafide and Cool Relax were banging!) WE tend to diss "Blue-Eyed Soul" men and women for attempting to perform OUR music. At least he respects OUR music and does it justice. So, HATERS, if you doubt him, listen to "Pleasures U Like", especially the title track, Boy Is Not A Man, Now That I Am With You, and the most banging cut, "Finer Things" w/Nas (at his best, a reflection of the "Illmatic" days).Jon, if you are reading this, you get love for making 74 minutes of real soulful music. Most of these so-called "soul" cats out nowadays (Black or White) aren't even as cold as you are. It's disgusting that the world, per usual, judges US, and judges YOU for being down with us. Not in the "wannabe" sense, just REALLY FEELING AND BEING DOWN WITH US. Your music reflects this and if Guru, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Nas, BABYFACE, TIM & BOB(the two other coldest producers out...so, so underrated) are cool with you, so am I. Peace to you and Musiic. Best of Happiness, bruh. Make the next one even better, if possible...Peace!

OVERJOYED!!!!!,

I waited a long time for Jon B. to sing to me again. I didn't become a fan until his second release and now I'm a fan for life. This man has made music that touched my soul...some people listen to the music and the beats. I listen to the words and the feelings BEHIND the words. I try to relate to them and see how they fit into my complex crazy life. I admit that I slept on this CD for a minute after I got it. My sister-in-law kept telling me about this song called, "Lonely Girl" and saying it was her favorite song...but once I truly listened to the CD, I found that the whole thing was a work of art. My favorite cuts are Layaway, Tell Me, Overjoyed (feat. Faith) and of course that jammin single, Don't Talk. I didn't think Jon could out do his last CD, but this time I MUST say, my hat goes off to him. If you haven't had a chance to check this one out, you don't know what you're missing! Jon is keeping it real and there will be at least 2 or 3 songs that you can relate to personally. I know I did. Keep up the good work Jon! You ARE the man!

Nice Comeback...,

As a long time fan of Jon B and with his new single Don't Talk (hot track) I bought this cd. Unlike his previous work, this cd takes some warming up to because I had to listen to it a few times to really feel it and also understand what Jon B was saying. Along with his straight R & B style, Jon B experiments with a few jazzy beats that sounds real nice and has collaborations with hip hop artists like Nas (QB's finest), Cuban Link and AZ. My favorite tracks on this cd are Sof'n Sweet, Cocoa Brown, Don't Talk, Boy is Not A Man, and Overjoyed w/Faith Evans. Jon B did a good job with this cd and I recommend if you are a fan of his to purchase this because it will be around for a while.

THIS CD IS THE BEST R&B ALBUM IN A LONG TIME!!!!,
By Jason (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pleasures U Like (Audio CD)
Jon B. has created an album that is better than his first two albums Bonafide and Cool Relax. He has also created one of the best R&B albums to come out since Babyface in 1996. He has made real R&B music unlike most of his peers in the music industry. If you want an album to relax and just listen to, this is the album for you. It is perfect for the car, office, and anywhere else. The best songs on the album is DON'T TALK, LAYAWAY, & SOF'N SWEET. Don't get me wrong the whole album is great but these three are my favorites. This album is a definite must in your cd collection.

Exxxcelent!,

This is Jon B's greatest album yet. His lyrics are filled with more sensuality and maturity than ever before! Songs like "Overjoyed" "Finer Things" "Inside" "Cocoa Brown" "Sof 'N Sweet" "Boy Is Not A Man" and "Now That I'm With You" would be considered CLASSICS if everbody could have heard these songs as singles. This is the greatest underated album of 2001 and it is very deserving of not three, not five, but TEN STARS!

On second thought...,

This review is from: Pleasures U Like (Audio CD)
People may be ready to give me an unhelpful vote once they saw me take my Pleasures U Like rating down from five stars to four. Well, I've been listening to this album a lot (in fact, it literally never leaves my stereo), and I've noticed some things that I overlooked at first.First of all, there's no denying that this album is great. Jon starts things off lovely with the addictive "Finer Things" (the midtempo "Tell Me" is also addictive). Further along you'll hear other great bouncy tracks like "Sof'n Sweet" and "All I Want Is You". And for those you looking for another classic ballad like "They Don't Know" from Cool Relax, try "Lonely Girl" and "Boy Is Not A Man" on for size. There is also unique and innovative production to be found on here, as showcased on "Layaway" and his duet with Faith Evans, "Overjoyed". What made me give this album four stars now? Well, 74 minutes is a little long for an album nowadays. If Jon wanted to shorten the album, he could've left off the title track. It isn't bad, but it sounds a little empty compared to the rest of the album; also, it really isn't about anything. Moreover, I agree with some of these other reviews that said there were too many skits on this album. Skits don't really need to be on an R&B album; and anyway, the skits on here don't go anywhere. But those things are minor compared to all the great songs to be found on here. I even think this album is better than Cool Relax. It's not too late to pick this up.

Total Jon B.,
By "icyapril" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

I have all of Jon B.'s albums, and this is by far my favorite. Even though I didn't believe it to be humanly possible, with the other two albums producing hits like "Pretty Girl", "Someone 2 Love", "Are U Still Down?", "They Don't Know" and "Can We Get Down", this album has gone above and beyond even my expectations. With Nas helping out on "Finer Things" and Faith Evans on "Overjoyed" the album brings together many of today's R&B talent, with Jon B. as the star. His sexiness is overwhelming on "Inside" and "Calling on You"!!!! I listen to this CD on my way to work, on my way home and when I'm at home with my guy. This is a definite for those times!!! Highly HIGHLY recommended...

The Best,

I'll keep this short and to the point. This is the best R&B album I've heard released in 2001. Jon. B.'s last album was excellent and he has exceeded that production with his current effort. This man is a very talented (see the album credits and his creative input) and fast rising star. Keep an eye on him in the future. Kudos to Tracy Edmonds for development. Jon B.'s album is considerably better than her famous husband's new project.
