Works Great But Only Meant for Limited Use,
By JoyfulJourneys (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews Had Pledge done that originally, and even sold it for twice the price, it would be a 5 star product. I agree with the prior review that there is NO reason they couldn't have done that. But yes, the product does say not to attempt to disassemble in any way. This product worked wonderfully. Once I figured out how to empty and re-use it, it saved me HOURS of vacuuming furniture. I have a very large dog that is free to roam our home and sheds constantly. I used the product on many types of fabrics including a corduroy couch, microfiber/microsuede couch, pillows, cotton comforters, etc. It worked like a charm and was practically effortless. The clear plastic container area on the back filled up in about 2 minutes. It is "riveted" on and cannot be removed. At the point it is full it's meant to be tossed. Not worth the $5 price for 2 minutes of work. However, I very carefully popped off one end of one of the rollers and was able to empty the container and then re-use the product. That could easily wear down or break the fasteners so in the end, to save time and money, we cut a U-shaped slit in the top of the clear plastic area and can open and close it to empty it and re-use. It took some manipulating to make sure the edges weren't sharp, but we made it work. I really do think functionally this is a 5 star product but couldn't give it such for the mere fact that it's meant to be a throw away, and not re-used.

WASTEFUL throwback product,
By How it works: two half rollers covered with the same rough textured fabric that covers old school lint brushes. Roll it back and forth in short strokes across the upolstered fabric of your furniture. As one roller is picking up hair off the fabric, the other gets cleaned by the edge of that first roller, pushing the collected hair into a small container which doubles as a hand grip. If you have a smooth surface, the hair comes up pretty easily, however surfaces like carpet, or with deeply embedded hair, require a lot more rubbing/scrubbing with the tool to pick up hair. I found this tool does a pretty good job, and having the collection container is a huge plus. HOWEVER...the hair collection container is NOT REMOVABLE!!! This means, once the container fills with hair, you're supposed to THROW IT AWAY! Um, WHAT? Are the people at Pledge seriously that far out of sync with the state of affairs in the world today??? You can see from the design that they COULD have made it removable, and probably the actual designer INTENDED it to be removable. Instead, they use bright blue plastic pins to hold tightly in place, what otherwise to be an easy to open snap cover. Unfortunately, they do NOT mention this in the commercial, or on the box, or I would have NEVER paid for this product. I do intend to cut off those pins, and re-use this product until it falls apart, then I'll be back to my other methods of hair removal, never to purchase this product again.

Toss after ONE use? Not with THIS cat!!!,
By The Taminator "There's no going back. You've ... (The People's Republic of Indiana) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) Enter the Pledge fabric sweeper. I decided to try it, and it does work very nicely on furniture type surfaces where the fabric is stretched over something and you have something to push against. Forget about using this on loose, hanging curtains, for example. The rollers will grab some hair on the curtains, but you've got to be able to press down against something and put your back into it a little to get it to work. So the thing works on furniture pretty much like they advertise on those commercials where the woman is trapped in a glass room with a dozen cats for a week. (I'd hate to see OR smell the litter boxes after that test! I sure hope they had some ventilation for that lady!) The problem with this product, as noted elsewhere, is that you are supposed to throw it away after it fills up. There's no escape hatch in the back where maybe you could pull it out with tweezers (I cut my own so I'll get tons more use out of this, and you can too!). Fiddling with the rollers too much will result in eventual wear and tear which will cause the product to become utterly useless. Also, I'm no green freak, but even if I had the money to waste on multiple units over and over, I wouldn't. These things are not cheap, and if there's anything I can't stand, it's WASTE. Wasted money on multiple units, more resources spent on garbage pick-up-- should I even bother to invoke the word LANDFILL here? The company's environmental claims on its website are hysterical when one considers the audacity of WASTE inherent in this item. Customers, buy ONE unit, cut a hole in the top, and enjoy hair-free furniture without lint rollers for many, many uses. Pledge, Mr. Bigglesworth does NOT approve of this foolishness. Start making reusable units and stop trying to pull the fur over his little blue eyes, a'ight? HE IS WATCHING YOU.

Pricing is not appropriate.,
By Tein N. (San Diego, California) - See all my reviews Why the five stars then? Well, it works pretty brilliantly -- it is pretty sad that it took our species this long to figure out something like this for such a pet friendly nation. If you have a flat surface with dog hair, this thing will likely wipe it clean without too much effort. Now onto the costs. First of all, if you own a heavy shedding dog like myself, then you're aware that they can shed bags upon bags of hair not just these almost laughable containers that come with these sweepers. Furthermore, there is absolutely no reason why Pledge couldn't have made these a bit more reusable other than to extort the consumer $[...]. All it takes is to make it so you can manually put on and take off these plastic coverings because the roller itself looks like it can last quite a while. These things are most definitely not for heavy use if you're looking for a cheap way to keep your house, clothes, and cars clean -- unless of course, you're willing to set aside 4.50 a week or so to buy these. I'm sure you can alter these things a bit haphazardly so you can open the plastic covering when you need to dump out the hair and reuse the darn thing. For lighter users, I highly recommend, these things are pretty awesome. Works infinitely better than those lousy lint rollers and far more efficient. It picks up hair and loose articles not everything that ends up sticking to the tape. Good job on the product, boo on consumer consideration.

Nothing Better See Customer Pic for Proof,
By Walker Rankin (Michigan) - See all my reviews You can re-use it by taking a screw driver and pushing back the tabs that hold the rollers in. By taking one end out that's enough to clean it out. It snaps right back in.

Shame on Johnson & Son,
By It is a shame that a great product concept has been degraded in the hopes of a quick profit.

Something actually WORKS on pet hair!!,
By WOW!! Then I went after the culprit - gently first - and he LOVED the rub down with it!! :) I wouldn't suggest using it on anything but a short-haired dog, of course. I don't know how much you can use it - as it is only used until it no longer picks up any hair. I would have given it four stars for that reason, but if pet hair is a problem - this is an excellent fix!! Walmart sells this product for approximately $4.62, so it isn't badly priced there. Hoping that there is more than one in the products that are listed on here for $6+ dollars. |
