5.0 out of 5 stars Blu-ray Reader
This is a very good product/buy for a person that only wants a Blu-ray reader that reads all formats. It is not a "WRITER" as were stated! This product does write all DVD/CD formats.

2.0 out of 5 stars Junk
Noisey, had trouble with lightscribe media right off the bat (wouldn't recognize lightscribe media). Now after a year won't burn playlists from Itunes. Sounds like an airplane taking off when you play a DVD. Replaced with LG WH10LS30K 10X Blu-ray Burner - LightScribe. Whole new ballgame - quiet - no troubles. You get what you pay for!

Plextor drives are not the quality the once were - they are now often now simply rebadged Lite-On products. If you ever have to have one replaced, their customer service and RMA process is the worst I have experienced. Make sure you do your homework and look at their quality and customer service reputation before considering ordering one of these...

4.0 out of 5 stars Plextor SATA Bluray Drive, December 23, 2009

Took me 1 minute to replace my SATA DVD drive with this SATA Bluray drive -- more of a testament to my CoolerMaster Cosmos case than the BR drive, but what the hey...

It reads Bluray disks fine. BR discs load way faster than my standalone Sony BluRay player. Handles DVD's well for playback.

Comes with a bunch of useless software, including the awful PowerDVD. They have a drive tester program, which I installed. All the other crapware is not installed on my system. I'm very happy with this drive, but I wish that vendors would include one GOOD piece of software instead of 10 garbage products like the extremely useless PowerDVD...

This drive appears to perform at about the same speed as my old Plextor SATA DVD burner. This drive has a somewhat smoother action, and is quieter than the older DVD burner. This BluRay drive is a bit pricey at $145. I was willing to pay extra for Plextor - they make the best, toughest, most compatible-with-everything drives on the planet.

NOTE: Instead of PowerDVD or the BR version of WinDVD, you can use VLC Media Player to play BR discs. VLC is limited, but it's FREE and has basic functionality.

The buffer/cashe is big enough that it's almost as much fun waiting to see how long it takes before the disc actually has to read, than it is watching the movie.(Of coarse I'm a die hard nerd, so what ever you want to take from that.)

Update: dead a little after a year.
