5.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with the rest, buy the plextor CD-RW drive!
This was one of the easiest installations I've experienced. Within 15 minutes I'd popped this in, set up the drivers, and was ready to burn. The software included (Adaptec Direct Cd, plextor manager) is easy to use (although personally I like Nero more). I have yet to make a "coaster". I've made a variety of cd's--from strictly storage, audio cd's to vcd's...

1.0 out of 5 stars Software That Crashes
I purchased the 8x4x32 CD-RW with high hopes. I received it and actually didn't get to installing it for a few days. When I did, Windows 2000 Professional readily found the drive and was able to access it fine. My hopes seemed to be confirmed. However, I popped the software CD in to install Adaptec Easy CD Creator 3.5c and Plextor Manager 2000 1.4 and when I...

Of all the drives I researched prior to my purchase, plextor had the most compliments and the least complaints on usenet.

The Plextor 8x4x32 is a flawless piece of equipment. Not only is it very well design, it's also very much supported by Plextor. Plextor's website has firmware updates for the drive which are painless to install. Instructions are comprehensive and installation was quick.

For those of you that don't bother reading the instructions when you install it, know that the jumper settings on the back of the drive are defaulted to Master, not Slave.

The drive speed is impeckable. Using Nero, I can burn a full 650MB in just under 10 minutes.

If you're also looking at the TDK veloCD, another highly recommended CD-RW drive, don't bother with it and get this one. I bought one to compare and found out that they are _the exact same drive_. The only difference is cosmetical and the increased price for the TDK drive.

Small bad thing...very minor. The tray on this has an extraordinarly slow speed. Very minor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, July 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
I have been very pleased with this cd-writer. The first thing I noticed was that it came with everything anyone could need. It has both a users guide and an operations manual, along with an ide cable, EZ CD Creator 3.5, and Plextor Manager 2000.

As usual, software installation took longer than anything else, and that was only 10-15 minutes.

I can burn a full cd in about 11 minutes, but you might get better times on a newer system. (Mines almost 2 years old)

I was choosing between the Hp 9100i and this, and for 20 bucks less, I think you get an equally as good, if not better product.

5.0 out of 5 stars CD Burners can't get any better than this, June 17, 2000
By
This review is from: Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
The first burner I owned was a Yamaha 4x4x16. When I got it, I mainly made direct copies of other CDs, and sometimes compiled my own data CDs for backup. After about 15 CDs burned, things started going bad. Many of the CDs burned were unusable, the burner didn't correctly burn the closing of sessions anymore and so on.... So I decided to get another burner and opted for this Plextor burner. Even though I suppose it was a case of bad luck with the Yamaha, this burner is absolutely flawless. It hasn't had a single error since the beginning, and that was about 50 Cds ago... This burner is surely the best buy you can get. It also has very nice features such as digital audio and the 32 reading speed. It can't really get any better than this...

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Hardware. So, so everything else., October 6, 2000
This review is from: Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Plextor only makes CD drive sollutions, and they do it very well. This is an outstanding drive; however, the software it ships with is not great. Although it will work under most circumstances, and many people will not have a problem, you may want to invest in the new Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.0 along with the Drive. This drive has given me (and my customers) outstanding functionality and speed. No drive writes faster, excpet it's own 12x10x32 that was just released. Buy this CD burners if you are looking in the sub $200 range.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best burner ever, November 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
This was the absolute easiest installation ever... all you do i s connect 3 wires... change the jumper accordingly and screw it in... it comes with great software and i haven't screwed a cd up... The only bad part is that if you plan to make backups of your audio cds... make sure your cd-rom/dvd-rom drive can extract audio at 8x because if it can't you won't be able to copy cd to cd... overall great burner.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great buy!, October 22, 2000
This review is from: Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
If you're looking for super-fast, don't buy this drive. but it definitely isn't slow. It's a great deal at this price, and is a very high quality CD-R drive. I've never had any clarity problems or skipping with the CDs I've burned, and I've gotten a lot of use out of it in the two months I've had it. Definitely worth consideration if you're searching the market. While it's not the fastest, you'd be hard-pressed to find a drive this fast for this price anywhere. And it is by no means outdated. And the software that comes with it is very easy to use and efficient.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bargin for a great drive, July 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
This CD-RW rocks. It only took 8 minutes to burn 400 megs onto a CD-R. Comes with the Adaptec software that everyone has, plus Plextors own stuff. One negative was the Plextor software did not recongnize my other CD-ROM. I downloaded an update and everything was fine. Plextor makes good CD players. One of the best.

This review is from: Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Unfortunately my Plextor CDRW arrived with pages 17 through 32 missing from the Operators Manual. I contacted Plextor by phone, was put on hold for an unbelievable length of time then a recording told me to leave a message and my call would be returned. I left a message complete with my name area code and phone number. The call was NEVER returned. Then I emailed Amazon. com's customer Service. Plextor ignored Amazon's first 2 requests for attention. Amazon has been great about helping me. I have emailed Plextor 5 times for assistance. Finally I believe Plextor is going to snail mail another manual. I really like my Plextor CDRW but their customer service is awful!
