Just bought this product and am VERY happpy with it-I was burning CD's in under five minutes. It's small, compact and comes with a nice travel case. It comes with excellent software (Roxio's Easy CD 5.01-XP users will need to download a patch to use the DirectCD part but everything else will work)I would recommend you shop around on the price...

I have a Dell Inspiron 4000 with a damage usb port, so I bought the adaptec USB2Connect to use with this burner. I followed the simple instructions to install the burner and had no problems. I read the other reviews and expected a carrying case to come with it, but I saw after I bought it that it is an additional accessory for 25 dollars. Overall the product is easy to use and install with Windows 2000 and XP. It may not be the fastest burner, but its size and looks make up for it as an external laptop add-on.

...I bought the plextor 8x8x24. It was so easy! Just plug it and that's all! It is very light also, and it comes with a carrying case. I had no problems with it, even if I only have USB1.1

It is not the cheapest, but go for it! Easy and light

I have Windows XP on my laptop. Once I opened my Plextor drive box, I simply connected the USB and power connectors, dropped in the folders I wanted to backup, and issues a command to write the data (with right mouse click on drive).

I did not have to install any software nor fiddle with configuration. It was extremely easy to setup (not much of setup to talk about) and use.

I was looking for an external CD writer for my laptop and after reading the reviews on this one I decided to give it a shot. I took it out of the box, plugged it in and my computer (running XP) instantly recognized it, great.

But then I tried to install the software and after rebooting, it kept "blue-screening" my computer (first blue screen I've seen in XP). After rebooting, I uninstalled the software and visited the Roxio site, where there was indeed a link to a patch that XP users would need, I clicked on it and kept getting server errors. This went on into the night and I finally convinced a customer service rep at Roxio that they had a problem, they said they would look into it.

So being impatient, I installed Nero instead and started burning.

So how does it work? I've burned one CD and it was very fast and made a perfect burn, so no complaints with the drive itself. One annoyance is that if I turn off the power on the drive or unplug the USB cable when my computer is powered up, it reboots my computer. I upgraded the firmware and still the same thing, not a big huge deal as long as I remember to shut down the computer first.

Also, I love the carrying case that it came with, it's kind of a tight fit getting all the cables in there and getting it zipped but the padding around the drive is excellent.

So overall I can't complain too much, I did get a really good deal on it and I think it's going to work well for me. Just remember that if you're running XP you may have to put up with some initial "bumps" to get up and running.

I purchased this as my "back-up" system, and have had great luck with it (no bad CDs burned so far!). It did take a while to get set up properly for my IBM laptop, but once it was set up, it worked quickly and easily. I am very happy with my CD writer. I particularly like it's portability. Very slim and light.

I chose this CD burner over Sony because it was recommended to me by the company whose CD-burning program I use, and I am glad I bought it. It reads AND burns CDs flawlessly; since using it, I have not burned one coaster. One note: it prefers to have a USB port that is 2.0 instead of 1.1, but personally I still get great use out of it on my old 1.1 port and am very happy with it.

the product works as advertised. the seller was cooperative and helpful. the item was described as having minor scratches
when in fact they were score or digs, but that didn't effect the operation which is satifactory.

It is really easy to start using it. Moreover the design is nice and it is portable.
