Book Description

April 24, 2006
Julie Cromwell is a selfish, manipulative, and insecure woman, and those are her good qualities. Her husband, a cosmetic surgeon, thinks it’s because when she was a child, her father sexually abused her. She sets up a fake kidnapping to see if her husband loves her enough to pay a million dollars for her safe return. Something goes wrong and she winds up dead. Thus the first plot twist, but certainly not the last. Enter lead detective Karl Larkin and his partner, Ted Cramer. Together they refuse to let sleeping dogs lie. They begin to rattle the skeletons in the family’s closets, following promising leads that lead to dead ends. Larkin finds himself breaking his number one rule: Don’t get involved with the family you’re investigating, and never, never fall in love with your prime suspect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plot Twist by Donna Thompson, October 31, 2006
This review is from: Plot Twist (Paperback)
I must say that so many mystery books give the idenity of the viliain away to early in the book. Most I have read I know who done it before the end of the first chapter, which makes for a dull read. Not so with Donna Thompson's book Plot Twist. Donna's book kept me on the edge of my seat chapter by chapter. Doubt was cast on all the characters with the exception of the lead detective and his overweight partner. At times I visualized them as the two detectives on Dragnet, but softer somehow. There was a love that developed among two, which will bring out the romance reader in us all. There was abuse that will break your heart, and neglected children to be found there too. A mother's love that is unsurpassed and another whose love is of the simplest form, and a beautiful writer of the written word. I would like to quote Cassie Thompson, one of the characters who just happened to be an author. 'You learn slow, Detective, but you learn well,' she chuckled. 'Don't get mewrong. I paint pictures with words and nothing gives me greater pleasure than having a fan tell me they couldn't put my book down. That is when I know I've done my job well. When does it happen for...? I mean, when do you know you have done your job?' Donna has done that for her readers. She has painted a picture with word, and she has done her job well. Well done, Donna! 5.0 out of 5 stars A good mystery, June 1, 2006

This review is from: Plot Twist (Paperback)
Donna Thompson's characters are well developed and interesting. Her plots have wonderful twists and turns along the way that I never saw coming. It is an excellent book and keeps the reader waiting to near the end for the murderer's identity to be revealed and keeps you wondering "who done it". I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. I am certainly looking forward to more work from this fine author.
