This crock looks great sitting on the counter.

The only thing holding it together was ONE piece of tape...now I know why the first one was busted up.

We were disappointed but not ultimately suprised as this thing weighs quite a bit.

This sturdy ceramic kitchen compost holder has become an old friend, one of those dependable if inert gizmos that's there waiting by the coffeemaker every morning, prepared to do its job without complaint. If I find myself experiencing the odd sensation of affection for a piece of mass-produced pottery, I find some justification in the countless late-night trips on which it's accompanied me, summer and winter, dutifully bearing its load of fruit and veggie waste out into the backyard darkness to the compost unit.

If only all friendships were so enduring, so reliable, so devoid of drama and emotional taxation.

But you don't want to know all that.

Just buy the compost crock. It may well be the most uncomplicated decision you make this week.

My husband received this ceramic crock as a gift two weeks ago. Last night as he went to lift it by the handle to move it, one of the knobs that the handle attaches to snapped off. We were disappointed but not ultimately suprised as this thing weighs quite a bit. The handle itself is heavy duty but the knobs used to attach it to the crock are just not beefy enough to support the weight of this thing. I called Plow and Hearth and they are giving a full refund to the gift-giver and I am pleased with how they responded.

If you want something pretty to keep your scraps in, this is great, just don't pick it up by the handle.

We used to keep a small plastic bucket on the counter, but it looked awful. This looks great and I love that it can go in the dishwasher. The filter works great too.

I love this crock. I had a pail that I kept under the sink, but I hated bending over to use it. This crock looks great sitting on the counter. It is so easy to dispose of scrapes until I can take them out to the compost bin. The filter works great- I have not noticed any odor. I also like that it can be washed in the dishwasher!

I love this compost pail. It holds so much stuff that you don't have to take out your compost scraps so often. That's a great convenience during these cold days. The crock pot looks so slick and is barely noticeable on the counter. I bought biodegradable liner bags too and just love them. If you're thinking about getting this, I say do yourself a favor and get it now. I can't believe I am so excited about my compost crock pot but I am. (I concur with the reviewer about needing to carry it from underneath when it's full: it is quite heavy and you don't want to take the chance of its breaking.)

The first ceramic composter that I received, the box was battered and the composter was broken into a million pieces. I contacted Uncle Jim's Worm Farm and told them that it was broken. They immediately wrote me back telling me that they would be sending me a new one (which they did), but the shipping times for both pieces was unbelievably slow. The 2nd one finally came but the box was just about as beaten up as the first one. The only thing holding it together was ONE piece of tape...now I know why the first one was busted up.

The composter itself does not look like the picture. It looks like every other white ceramic composter that's on the market (you know, the white fire hydrant looking onesNorpro 1 Gallon Ceramic Compost Keeper, White). I bought this one solely on the way it looks in the picture, b/c it looked different than all other composters. If I had known that it wasn't different I could have gotten it somewhere else for cheaper and with better shipping options.

Good customer service, poor packaging, slow shipping, and inaccurate item description.
