More than surprised by the features!,

This review is from: Plug-in Suite 5 [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
I have been looking at components of onOne software products for several years. I was given a version of PhotoTools as a gift but it required a higher grade video card than I had at the time. I have had an 8G gaming level computer for more than a year so I looked into onOne software once again.
I am at near professional level skill with Photoshop and anytime I reviewed the onOne software via online websites I was not impressed that what I saw was worth the steep price. Looking at the onOne website ad photos (the 'before and after' shots), I didn't see the point..."I can do that on Photoshop"...is all I could think. In the past two months I came across several free online 'webinars' of onOne and xRite product features used in photo printing and editing tutorials. I could see that even if the features in the onOne Suite did not produce a better result than I can achieve in PS, it performs difficult selections, sharpening, enlargements, framing and portrait editing tasks so much faster than PS that to not add this plug-in to my PS4 would be unthinkable. Although I just said that onOne Suite may not produce a better result...the fact is that it usually does produce a better result; did I also say it was much easier and faster! In case you were as concerned as I was about the price (which I thought was way too high), go to their site and watch some of their "Academy Tutorials" and 'webinars'. If you use Photoshop for difficult and delicate time consuming tasks, you will need a lot of willpower to not want to order this Suite sooner rather than later. I have owned Plug-In Suite 5 for a month. I've owned Photoshop in CS2, CS3, CS4, and will install PS5 this week. I work on a tight budget so I would have had to see how it would benefit me time-wise before I could justify the purchase.

Clunky at times but still worth it.,

I really like these plug-ins and use them often to easily enhance photos and draw out details of the story. This is a great package for portraits, travel photography and landscapes. The tools I've used the most are PhotoFame, PhotoTools, and FocalPoint. Why I like this better than the 4.5 suite: - Works with 64-bit programs. - Tools are more stable (with 4.5 I would experience crashes from time to time - so far none with this suite) - Expanded options in each of the programs giving more end user control - EXCELLENT OnOne Web site with loads of great resources and techinical support - Great customer service with quick responce when emailing support - Great demos and free tools on their web site so you can try before buying I am using this with the following programs: Lightroom 2 (64-bit) Photoshop CS 4 extended (64-bit) I am running a Windows 7 system with 8 gigs of RAM

dissappointed,
This review is from: Plug-in Suite 5 [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
I really wanted to like this package, & was all set to buy it, but couldn't get the software to work w/ my computer. Vista 32bit & photoshop CS5. Was initially looking at the photoresize & the mask tool & was particularily excited about the mask tool. Although I though alien skin did a somewhat better job at the enlargement, it wasn't worth the extra money for what I would use it for (primarily for enlargements that are cropouts rather than very large photos). But they could never get the resize working all I ever got was a square in the bottom corner of my screen below the original photo & a frozen photoshop. The only thing the tech group came up with was maybe my video card wasn't compatable (they said it was), my drivers weren't updated, they were, but did it again just to be sure, & not enough memory thought I had 4G which should be enough, but DH told me later I actually have 8G, ought to be able to get by on that...So their other solution was rather than just buy the two products I wanted I should try the full suite because sometimes the individual tools didn't work on some computers.... Excuse me? Spend more money to get tools I wasn't necessarily interested in because your tech people can't fix it if it isn't the one problem they know about? Tried it package anyway, after a 4+hr download (not on dialup mind you) I still had the same problem & the demo of the other tools puts a water mark on the photos so it's really distracting to look at them & a waste of ink to try & print them out to compare them out as hard copies. Some demo/trial. I guess it's good enough to let me know I don't want to spend the money. I'll keep just using photoshop. As far as I could tell the photos didn't look any better w/ the on one software, in fact the tone tool did a pretty poor job w/ skin tone as far as I could see. I'll look elsewhere.
