Product Description

Features faster-than-wireless speeds and easy connectivity. The Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100 Network Adapter adds a Fast Ethernet (RJ45) capable port to any supported system. It uses the ASIX AX88772 chipset for widest possible compatibility. Note the adapter is not for network enabling USB devices, rather it's the other way around - it's a USB device that adds a fast wired network interface to supported computers, consoles, and mobile devices running network-capable operating systems. The unit features a compact external design. Two LEDs monitor power and link activity. Powered by USB (no external power adapter needed).

Compatibility

Drivers built in -- no driver install required -- on Windows 8, Surface Pro 1/2, Mac OS 10.7 and newer, Nintendo Wii, Wii U, Linux 2.6.12+, ChromeBook, Chumby, and some other systems. On Windows 7, Vista 32/64-bit drivers are automatically provided via Windows Update. Windows XP, 2000, ME, and 98SE require driver install via download or included disk. Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.6 drivers via download. Open source driver in Linux kernels 2.6.12+.

Not supported on ARM-based Windows, including Surface RT and Surface 2.

Performance

Wired Ethernet via this adapter provides faster and more reliable network access than typical 802.11 wireless networking (up to 2-3x as fast). Particularly helpful for web video, downloads, and streaming.  Useful to replace a broken network port, participate on multiple networks, or give virtual machines their own physical network connection.

In the box

Plugable USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet adapter with a USB 2.0 male A connector to the host and a RJ45 female connector to the network, driver disk, and quick start guide.

There are so many USB to ethernet adapters out there and I wasn't sure which would work for the Chromebook. I finally chose this one since it stated Chromebook on the title. It is plug & play and I had no lag time that I know of. I was cheap and didn't want to pay for an USB 3.0 to ethernet adapter and I wasn't sure if it would speed up internet browsing. Chromebook will recognize the ethernet connection right away or you can switch it to Wi-Fi.

The box has a small CD with it, but it doesn't matter to me since it works on the Samsung Chromebook without the drivers from the CD, and the drivers on the CD are for Windows only. You can also download the drivers on Plugable's website. I don't think I can install drivers on the Chromebook anyway.

What I look for in most products is reliability. I only want to buy it once! This item works as advertised.

It's compatible with the two systems I tried so far; Windows7 and XP. And it's fast.

If your wondering how long the attached cable will last, it seems sturdy enough to see many years of normal use. This is a quality item. I doubt anyone buying this adapter will be disappointed. Enjoy!

I got this Wii LAN Adapter because I have a wireless deadspot where one of the Wiis in the house is located. It was very very very easy to setup. No software drivers were needed. I just powered off the Wii (Red Power Light) connected the USB LAN Adapter to the Wii, configured a Wired connection, and it worked. Now I have the best video quality when I watch Netflix.

I bought this because my laptop's ethernet slot decided to give up for some weird reason so I've been using wireless connection which is practical for laptops and sufficient for my needs. But when I moved to my apartment for college, I had to move from cable to dsl which showed significant decrease in download speed. I read a lot of reviews for many different products and decided to get this one instead. Even though I am not familiar with the brand, I went ahead and bought this one because it has the least negative review. It came after two days (Prime) and just finished testing it 10 mins ago. I used speedtest.net to test my speed through wireless and wired connection. Results are below:

Wireless: Averaged 14 Mbps Download
Wired with Plugable USB-Ethernet: Averaged 24 Mbps Download

It may not seem a lot, but to me, the extra 10 Mbps is a big improvement. I am now using the speed that I'm paying for and I'm very happy with it. I can't review the quality yet since I only had it for a few minutes but I can already tell that the case and usb wire is solid and could handle some abuse. Installed this on a Windows Vista 64-bit with no problems what so ever. True plug-and-play device. When prompted, just let Windows locate the driver for you, that's what I did. If mine didn't install, I had a browser opened in the plugable driver download website (just be careful to pick the right version).

Plug Ethernet into adapter, adapter into Wii, set up a Wired connex in Wii Internet settings. You're done, and never at the mercy of a low bitrate Wireless connex again. Netflix streaming, yes! Plugable 10/100 adapter, I think I *love* you! Thanks for a great, easy product.

I bought this adapter to connect my Android tablet (Asus Transformer Prime TF201, running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich) to the company network at work (we have no Wi-fi). I use the keyboard dock for the Transformer Prime, and this adapter plugs right into the USB port of the keyboard. All I had to do to make it work was turn off Wi-fi on the tablet, then plug it in. The tablet doesn't give any indication that there's an internet connection, but it does connect to the internet. No special drivers, apps, root access or tweaks were necessary - it works out of the box. Note: I had a flaky switch on the network that was causing this adapter to not work. After replacing that switch, all is good.

I bought this USB NIC (network interface card) because the port on the integrated one on my laptop was messed up. The pins weren't connecting. I chose to get this one over any of the other USB NIC's because it's the only one that even mentions compatibility with linux. If I had got one that didn't I'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to get it working with linux, but I always prefer the easiest approach and this card looked decent enough. After getting it out of the package there was a CD that included drivers (or more like a executable to get the driver going) for Windows and OS X, but no Linux. This didn't concern me because i could just run the executable for windows through WINE. So I plugged it into a port, but no power light. I was thinking "Oh no" but then plugged the CAT5 into the new card and power and link lights come to life. No driver installation at all. Just plugged it in and connected fine. Seeing as Kubuntu 11.04 didn't need to fetch any drivers I can't imagine Windows or Mac would need to either, but don't quote me on that.

More than satisfied, would recommend to anyone.

I actually had to buy two of these, the first one shipped to me defective. Anyways the second one worked, however it takes a while to connect to the net, when the computer first starts up, usually around 1-2 minutes. Not much but enough to be annoying, and the thing will disconnect at random sometimes, I think it's overheating. And then this forces you to restart your connection manually. For some people it might not work until you restart your router or modem with the ethernet cord connected to the device. All and all I'm gonna shell a couple more bucks and get a better one.
