Product Description

Connect USB printers, displays, adapters, keyboards, etc. from across the room with this 10-meter/32-foot USB 2.0 active extension cable. This cable's bus powered single port hub and a premium shielded cable enables this unit to have 2x the length of a standard USB cable.

Compatibility

No drivers required on any OS (functions as a one-port USB hub using built-in drivers). Works at full performance with devices such as printers, storage devices, DisplayLink USB displays, keyboards, mice, and most miscellaneous USB devices. Devices with precise timing requirements (usually USB cameras using isoch transfers) not recommended. Bus powered devices which require USB 2.0's full 500mA per port (such as USB wireless adapters) may require a powered hub between cable and device, because the cable itself consumes approx 66mA out of 500mA, sharing the remainder with the attached device. Not recommended for USB device charging due to reduction in amperage available to connected devices.

Not recommended for devices with high power consumption requirements. This cable will not charge iPads, iPods, or iPhones.

Not recommended for home theater appliances such as TVs, receivers, Blu-ray players, etc.

Now I can even move my printer desk across the room, if I want to!

I'm running this from my computer in another room to a USB hub on my desk and everything I've plugged in has worked just fine.

By the way, these are made with a good heavy cable and nice sturdy ends.

I bought two of these because I wanted to be able to transfer content to the external hard drives that are connected to my Mede8er (a media streaming device hooked to my TV). It and the hard drives connected to it are set up by my TV which is about 40 feet from my computer. I was tired of carrying the hard drives across the house and hooking them to my computer whenever I wanted to add new content to my media box.

I read in the specs by the manufacturer that this cable was not recommended for newer camera video transfer. I decided to try them and see if they would just transfer the files from my computer to my Mede8er. I never had any intention of streaming the video through them and watching them as they were being transfered.

I hooked everything up and did a test file transfer of 4 gigs, just to see how long it would take to complete the transfer. It took about 4 minutes, which is just about 1 minute more than it takes when I hook the drives directly to the computer with a standard 6 foot USB cable. Very reasonable in my opinion, considering that it is going through more than 40 feet of cable. So for what I bought it for it is a perfect product.

After that I decided to see what would happen if I DID try and stream the video and watch it as it was transferring through one of these. I was surprised to find out that everything up to and including a DVD would play without any problems. Anything that was 720p or higher would not play as a stream at all. It would play a few seconds and freeze. After 10 or so seconds it would again play for a few seconds and freeze.

To really try and cover all angles of sending video through one of these, I then tried to just play video files from the hard drives back to the computer using my VLC player on the computer.

I had a minor problem with this cable (female end) causing it to connect\disconnect the item(s) plugged into it. I saw all of the 5 star reviews, so I expect I was the exception to the rule and received a dud. I contacted the supplier (Plugable Technologies)and explained my concern. They immediately sent a replacement (pre-tested) cable. The replacement works good thus far,so I indeed must have received a dud at first. I wouldn't hesitate to order this cable again from this supplier as they stand behind their product 100%. Great job!

Note: if you have any USB devices that require a long extension cable (like over 6' or certainly over 10') try one of these 'active' extension cables. Also note: it will show up as a 'hub' when installed. Works great!

Cheers!

NOTE: For the geeky extreme technical stuff like power consumption, see "TECHNICAL DETAIL" toward the bottom.

I regularly do "tethered capture" with my DSLR. (In other words, I connect my camera to my computer while I'm actually taking photos so I can see the processed images as I take them.) Since it's practically impossible to have your camera connected to a computer with a 5' cable and still use it to take photos, I ordered the AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to A-Female Extension Cable (9.8 Feet/3.0 Meters) (which is a very good quality product for the price). Combined with the 5' cable my now 15' total length cable was really quite sufficient for most photography in the small studio bay I was using... well, most of the time.

So I decided that I needed even more freedom to move around, and ordered this extension cable. I haven't used it much yet, but I ran some tests with my camera + 5' cable +10' extension + this 32' cable and had no connection problems over 3 hours or so of constantly staying connected and visible to the software. Note that I didn't use the cable with "live view" (same as having the computer use the camera as a remote video camera, basically) so there weren't data constantly being transmitted, but I did take lots of photos at various times (filling up the camera's RAM buffer so it's transmitting as fast as possible) and no issues there.

The repeater on this cable is all the way on the far-side (away from the computer, etc) rather than in the middle of the cable. This is good because the repeater is a hub, and this lets you get another 5m of cable length with a regular cable.

Overall a good product. I attached a printer to a router via 10M USB extension cable from one room to another. The computer reads it well. I have not notice a change (decrease) in transfer speed. It is made of good-quality material. Hope this helps. Thanks.

I got this cable to use with a wireless router that is very, very far away. I mean like 350 feet! It works amazingly well! I,m using it right now and getting 4 bars! Excellent high speed internet. With my built-in laptop antenna I get 1 bar, sometimes 2. And many times it wouldn't even connect! My advice: don't waste your money on a more expensive active cable. I actually bought 2 other similar active cables at the same time I bought this one. Both were more expensive. This one works the best, and it was the least expensive.
