Prevents games and other applications on your computer from working. Disables HDCP support on non usb monitors.
on January 7, 2013
My OS is windows 7 64-bit, I purchased this device to get a 3rd monitor up and running, I installed the software, plugged in the hardware, the third monitor came up perfectly. All looked to be fine.
Then I noticed many games I have, yahoo messenger, and an assortment of other programs stopped working, they would all generate crash reports upon launching.
I uninstalled the software from the computer that came with this device, and everything now works fine again. Clearly there is an issue with the software provided.
I will be returning this as a third monitor is no help to me if half my applications no longer run.
**UPDATE** Support was able to determine that the issue was being caused by the newest nVidia graphics drivers, once I installed a prior rev, my software issues were fixed. I have updated my review to 4 stars based on this.
**Update** Using this device to power a second, or 3rd, monitor, will make all other HDCP compliant monitors that you have lose that functionality. Nvidia control panel properties will simply just not recognize your monitor as an HDCP device. So in order to stream high def content on your monitors that are not connected to the Plugable device, you will need to unplug the plugable device from your computer. At this point, your other monitors will immediately be recognized as HDCP compliant. Lowered my rating to 3 stars because of this. A good test to see if your monitor is HDCP compliant, aside from looking in nVidia control panel properties, is to fire up vudu, watch a trailer, choose HD or HDX as the settings, it will either play fine, or give you a message stating your monitor is not HDCP compliant.
