You should be able to close and hide your laptop by using the docking station. You may need to change power settings on the laptop so that the computer does not switch to sleep mode when closing the lid.

No. It does not power the laptop or charge the battery. There are two things to plug in while it is docked, the USB cable to the dock and the power cable for the laptop. So far the device is working perfectly.

Gayle yes it can. One from the Digital port and one from the HDMI port that requires an HDMI cable for your monitor. I currently run 2 monitors and the laptop display as we speak on this Plugable

The UD-3000 works with great with my daughter's Dell Inspiron i15R-2105sLV and her monitor. She has it plugged into to the USB 3.0 port and uses it with multiple screens (the monitor and the laptop screen). The multiple screens has to be setup using the software that comes with the UD-3000, not the Windows screen resolution page. It should work with any laptop with a USB 3.0 port.

Works well with a Lenovo A740 all-in-one desktop that does not have a monitor out capability. Supports two different monitors size monitors simultaneously as well as providing additional USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports. With Windows 10 versions through 10074, the existing Windows 8.1 Displaylink drivers worked fine. Then a Windows 10 driver for the main display was pushed by windows update that created an incompatibility that through the monitors offline. Displaylink has a beta Windows 10 driver available at the following link http://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/525125-when-will-displaylink-support-windows-10.

I have not tried it on a Sony, but I have tried on HP and Toshiba. my operating systems are Windows 8 and Vista and it works fine. Both on USB 2 and 3. USB3 is better, but USB2 works too. I have been very satisfied so far. My previous computer was a HP with a factory HP docking station, and it works equally as good. I have had the belkin universal type before and they did not work good at all. John

No, it is not a thin client. It simply extends the external ports for any computer (ex: external monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.).

Can't say for sure but it should. My understanding is that it's the OS that matters. I'm running Windows 8.1 which is what the Surface Pro 3 runs.

It will support two. One via HDMI, the other via DVI or VGA (can't recall which).
