This writer creates stories that involve the seedier side of life. And, does it tastefully. I like mystery and crime stories (which are basically a single genre), but I don't like overly graphic "horror" type scenes. In other words, I might on a whim visit a crime scene but, only after it's been cleaned up. The Joe Denali books fit the bill for me. Very good story lines and even descriptions of the stuff I wouldn't go see in real life made, entertaining. The author has even managed to write in sexual tensions and such without being overly graphic. I really enjoy old movies for the same aforementioned reasons. The bits and pieces coming together and creating a story and, being entertaining without giving in to over done graphic, scenery. The author has updated stories written in an updated manner without being offensive.

Characters: The characters are human. No super heroes here. Just interesting characters with all their strengths and flaws.

Well done book and I look forward to reading the next one.

It was fast-moving and had plenty of action! I liked the characters. People who like fast-moving detective stories will like this; I didn't give it t5 stars, because that's reserved for books by James Patterson, Tony Hillerman, and Jonathan and Faye Kellerman. This story had a satisfying ending, which is important to me!

For those of us in New Mexico, Barbara Leachman has created interesting New Mexico mystery stories. Her new Joe Denali series continues in that vein. I've enjoyed the first two of her stories (including Plugged Nickel) and will continue to anticipate them. Barbara, keep them coming!

Once again Barbara Leachman has brought true characters to life. They are believable and gripping. Her novels are a roller coaster of guessing and full of curves to keep you focused on the next hill. Trying to figure out the path to the end is always changing. Joe Denali takes us into his life (ups and downs, good and bad). He leads us to see ourselves in his struggles and triumphs. The mystery behind the story is ever changing leaving the reader to speculate, guess and cheer. Joe once again brings along Sandy, Coroner Dr Mary T Odom and Rooster while introducing us to new people in the world of law enforcement and crime. Each character is real and under speculation of likability. Keeping the reader guessing who can be trusted and who can't. Another great suspense, mystery, murder novel in the series. I can't wait for Mrs Leachman's next installation of the Detective Joe Denali Series! I had a hard time putting this one down.

I love this new mystery of dead homeless men and the way the author weaves the tale. Not only does she keep the reader interested in Detective Joe Denali and other continuing characters, she goes back and lets us know what happened to the main character in the first book. I'm looking forward to her third book in this series. The Brady Lady

Good story line, could happen. The book was free so I make myself finish them.

I wish authors would do more research on the subject background. 99% of women today in police work no longer wear skirts and pantyhose, that's not a uniform. You must wear business attire to court and of course look presentable.
Imagine what you look like if your chasing someone and have to climb a fence. Ever try running in heels? And as far as "bad language" goes, get real, they are only words. If you don't think people use them, just listen up.
Also, other agencies don't come in to your office and start telling you what to do or what to say.
And they certainly don't talk down to you like you are a piece of garbage. FBI or CIA would contact the supervisor first and then it trickles down hill. You would not have to take them berating you like that. They don't give you a pay check.

This author has a knack for character development, unfortunately, the characters don't fit their role in the story. Denali might be a high school football coach and Sandy might be a 3rd grade English teacher, but they are not detectives and their work ethic would never cut it in the real world. That aside, the story line started off with potential, but the connection between homeless men dying and Russian Mafia didn't fly with me. And why did they blindfold Sandy when they took her to the warehouse when they already knew they were being watched by the Feds? Why did they even bother kidnapping Sandy in the first place? Moreover, to pull the whole story together the author had to use a psychotic twist, that was weak to say the least. The ending at the airfield was very anti-climatic. Oh, let's not forget Eddie Sanchez, the detective wannabe. Oh wait a minute, he is a detective and afraid of his own shadow. If I worked for the APD I would be embarrassed to be depicted like these characters.
One more thing, the formatting was off, which might have been caused by the conversion process, but it didn't explain the spelling or grammar errors which were much more prevalent in this story than the author's first. Someone got lazy...
