Poetry inspired by a Zen Buddhist philosophy.,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plum Poems (Paperback)
Plum Poems is a collection inspired by Svein Myreng's practice of the Zen Buddhist concept of "mindfulness": dwelling fully in the present moment, aware of what is going on within and around. This is a poetry influenced by Japanese haiku and gathas (mindfulness verses), offering the reader a place of calm and transformation within daily's life's distractions and stresses. Grace: There is a stillness/simpler than silence,/a peace deeper/than calm./There is a shimmering/in the dark soil,/shades of trees,/in old moss, and the twisted/forms of branches,/that hold us, carry us/and nurture us./In a flash of the eye,/laughter, or a tear./No effort needed, no self to seek,/just grace remains.
